Getting kitchen ready for DH's return :)
Comments (46)I don't know how typical this is, but when the SO got home with a new knee joint, at the first visit the physical therapist did a quick walk-through of the house with me so we could get rid of any inadvertent obstacles. And the surgwon's office had a handout on what to do for house prep. Some things, like the step down from entry to LR couldn't be changed, but we had already had grab bars and a low-curbed shower installed after the busted leg incident. So ASK the care facility and the primary care doc what you really need to do....See MoreRecliner Suggestions - Please Help
Comments (18)Les, Thanks for the suggestion, I should probably give it a try for our recliner. It's had this problem since the first time we sat in it. Even if they were to come fix it, I still don't think good workmanship means someone should have to come repair it within a week of it's delivery. As for my daughter, oh boy...what a mess. Her and her DH bought their sofa with the idea of buying quality for the long term. They went directly to the Lazy Boy Store and even paid for someone come to their house for a consultation. (it's their first home) The setup suggested by the "expert" is way over sized for the room and the custom pillows they ordered and paid for in advance (at 45.00 a pop) where never even delivered. When I suggested she pursue it, she said she's called several times and has gotten a different response each time. Of course, now that store is closed. She's so disgusted with the outcome she just doesn't want to deal with it anymore. The entire couch itself has not worn very well at all either, it's sad....See MoreI'm in a quandary about my Adeniums - please help?
Comments (35)Hi Indigovenice, I would say your plants are grown from seed from what I can see. It is very unlikely that the Kruger National Park Nursery, where you bought your plants would bother with cuttings. Although your plants are young, you can see the making of a caudex/base in my opinion.... Cuttings tend to look more like a stick in a pot until they grow older, where they may develop a thicker stem/base look. Seedlings have a taper from base to top. Here's a photo to help explain better. The pot on the left, has cuttings from some of our plants. Notice what I call the stick in a pot look. The pot on the right with the pink flower is a seed grown plant, notice the taper of the trunk. (These are Adenium Obesums) Also here's a close up photo of our soil mix that we use. It is a cactus/succulent mix. It is a bark style soil mix. This mix drys out well in our heat within two days, giving our plants moisture, but yet not staying wet for too long. (The soil is wet in this photo, from the storm we had last night) We do not use a gritty mix in our heat, as our plants would cook in our heat with a gritty mix. (Our plants are in full sun all day.) You said, that your plants were bought in black plastic bags and that they didn't have many fine feeder roots. It's possible that the black plastic heated up too much and either cooked the fine feeder roots or that the excess heat may have stopped the plant from being able to grow feeder roots. Although these plants love heat, they are still vulnerable to excess heat as seedlings. If you think about it, all plants need a healthy established root system to flourish. This is especially important in seedlings. It is abit of trial and error to learn what your plants need in your environment. Most of us here on the forum have struggled while we were learning, so you are in good company. Many of us have killed a plant or two. :)...See MorePlease help with furniture style and placements!
Comments (8)@Jennifer Hogan Thanks for the questions. Answers on them below... How often do they entertain? How many people do they entertain? ~ once a month: total 10 adults and a few kids (including my parents). Adults usually eat dinner at the dining table and a folding table is set up in the living room area for kids (plus maybe one or two adults at the kids table to feed them) 3~5 a month: total 4 ~ 6 adults (including my parents) When they entertain is it at the table or watching tv/movies or both? Usually with 4 ~ 6 adults, they sit at the dining table to drink coffee or eat dessert With 10+ people, men often sit at the sofa area and women sit at the dining table to chat. TV is often left on, but mostly for the kids. Do they have any issues with mobility or difficulty getting up from deep or low seating? Nope, no mobility issues. But generally they don't like deep sofas, just because we're not very tall (mom is 5'3"), and deep sofas are less comfortable at our height. Do they use both the dining table and the kitchen table? Mom uses the kitchen table for food prepping (because there's not enough counter space and the height is easier for some prep work) Only the dining table is used for dining, even when there's only two of them. Unless there's people visiting, the other half of the dining table is often cluttered with work stuff, especially now that they are working from home (papers, computer monitor, etc.) Is there a better use of space rather than having 2 eating spaces (you mention they use the dining table for work from home)? I think especially right now, it's difficult to reduce down to 1 table, because large chunk of the dining table is used for work so the large dining table is a necessity... and my mom probably doesn't want to do food prep work on the nice dining table....See Morechispa
