Should it stay or should it go now?

Eight years ago I painted my hall in a color I thought was a grey...well it is purple(BM dusk I think it is). It has a small vaulted ceiling so I have keep it even tho i did not like the color much(to much work to set up a scaffold again). Now I am ready to do the work and I can not figure out what color and at times I think I might actually like the purple, not to mention it is my dd fav:).

My LR is now dark grey so i am no longer certain I want grey I prefer strong color to beige. The other colors on the main floor are Cajun spice, a deep red in DR. BM Quiet Moments in sunroom. Seal grey in LR and BM grasscloth in kichen.

any suggestions and pics would be great. Here are some pics.

If it goes there will be trouble...if it stays it will be double. (We're showing our age, dear.)

I don't like the sound of that. It must go if it is a tree. I knew it wasn't a from a nearby tree, so I will blame the birds for this one. I was hoping for some type of small native bush or something. Oh, well. Thanks for the ID.

Hi Everyone! Yeah I know it's similar in size to the other stuff. I just can't seem to pick out things that work together. It's actually half frustrating. Here's some pics of it in the kitchen. Please excuse the mess. It was one of DH's days off. . . :) I didn't bother to clean up for these. This is what was here. :O ...Oh the horror!! ;) I know the counter accessories aren't working together. Just was throwing different stuff out to see. The drainer is normally right beside the stove but I tried it on the other side of the sink just to see. I need to keep it somewhere. I'd like to get a black one instead. Found a nice iron looking one in a mag. but it was so small there would be no point. The wine corks I bought a big bag at the flea market last week. Teehee. We don't really even drink but I loved how decorative some of them were. I just had that apothecary jar but don't love it. Open to any suggestions for arranging stuff. I know it doesn't look right on top of the hutch like that but I just threw it up there for an idea. I'm sure it would fit on e.stand in the LR, on the bookends, or inside. I'll have to take some pics in the morning. Again, I can't seem to tell in my own house if things are starting to just looked like a bunch of throw together things/cluttered. Please guide me! Funky - Yep the one in Lemoyne. They have two more left and it was 50% off. Yay! I saw a really neat black, more traditional looking one in at Kohls awhile back and passed it up. I could kick myself because I haven't seen another like it since. I've checked a couple different stores. I'm not against painting this one if I know I can find a home for it in the house.

Rebecca, Localeater, and Suzannes: Thanks for your suggestion to live with it a while. Kksmama; I did do a Houzz search on hanging utensils and it was a big help and gave me some ideas of what to hang and how it looks. I bought a few things at my favorite discount store and hung them up and it does brighten up the area. Mgoblue: It is good to know you liked the one you had. I will give it a try. I think cleaning items once in a while in the dishwasher is a good idea. The hard part is cleaning the tile and utensil bar hooks. My husband has been using the egg separator I had hung there a couple weeks ago and it's quicker than looking in a drawer!

Oh good. I love purple and b&w too. Not sure how dark you are considering, but I once painted my 15x9 office a medium-dark purple (inspired by a magazine photo of an elegant dining room). As I was painting around the narrow end of the room the walls began to feel like they were moving in on m It was horrible! So back to the paint store for a lavender that hinted at periwinkle. So one option is lavender paint on top and dark purple rugs. FWIW, Kelly Moore lets you order 8x10 color samples, but you need to get the special form to fax in and then they mail them to you. I wonder if other companies do that too. ??? Good luck. Can't wait to see it.

I think it's a beautiful color. Let it stay. (I have very similar doors and trim (and radiator).

No wonder it is your dd's fav...so pretty! But if you really want a change and want a strong color...how about a bottle green color? I don't have any specific color recs, but just that general idea? It sounds like it would play well with your other colors. But I wouldn't change it, myself.

well it would be easier to keep...I think I like the bottle green idea too tho. Had not thought of a jewel green. Has anyone used a bottle green before? I like bee's wasabi but that has a bit of a yellow to it. Fori I loved your last homes kitchen wish I had it's twin! Maureen my home was built in the 1920's was your's too?

(Oh, not THAT house--I had a 1920s Tudor revival in SE MI with doors and trim like yours. LOVE it, and LOVE the purple!)

I think the current color looks gorgeous with your floors and trim so I would leave it, but a green would be nice too. BTW, I am really in love with your trim and need to put some up in my house. Do you mind giving me the measurements of your baseboards, door/window, and crown?

Tracie it is all stacked millwork and I am sure there is a better way of measuring than i have but here is what I have come up with.

Ok Baseboards are a total of 7inches with a large 5" in middle with a 1"cap on top and 1"cap on bottom.

doors are 4 1/4" total made up with a 3" flat board and a 1 1/4" trim around it.

windows are a total of 4 3/4' With three pieces. Middle is 3 1/4"; outer trim is 1" and inner trim is 1/2"

crown molding is small at 2".
Hope that helps good luck molding really makes a difference. I wish ours was more substantial at times.

I LOVE the current color and the way you have the moulding making it look so beautiful and elegant. I vote for stay.

Thanks so much for taking the time to measure roarah! I think your rooms and trim are just gorgeous. I find myself being drawn more and more to pictures with the thinner crown + heavier other mouldings, especially with my ceiling height which looks close to yours. It's not as top heavy and makes the ceiling recede visually.
