how to put a 27' oven in a 30' oven opening?

We are doing a light remodel on the kitchen (ie painting the cabinets, stainless appliances, new counter top, etc.)

Currently, I have a 15 year old 30" kitchenaid wall oven/microwave convection. A friend is practically giving me their 5 year old 27" double dacor oven. I am trying to figure out if I can make it work. The extra height is not a problem, we can cut the cabinet bigger. The issue is the width. The cut out in the cabinet will be too wide (going from 30 to 27) - about 3/4" on each side. Is there a frame or a trim that we can use to fill this gap?

My GC used a panel of thin stuff, spray painted exactly to match my cabinets, which was mounted on the front of the oven space. Mine is an under-counter wall oven, so it might work differently for a double oven, but I don't think so.

Can you obtain a panel, like an 'end panel' piece and use that - it would definitely match your cabinets then.

Or there is usually a special "oven panel" for facing a cabinet with double ovens, if your cabinet style is still available. But if you're painting anyway, you could probably save a lot of money by using MDF or something instead.

If you look up any unit on something like AJMadison or the manufacturer's website, you can find the interior dimensions. They are not entirely accurate - they overstate what actually would fit in there - but they give you an idea for comparison. The best way is to take a big pan, go to a store, and see how it fits in various models, as debs3 suggested. The real usable space in my Elux non-icon wall oven is about 22w x14.5d x12h, but the actual dimensions are larger than that.

My last home had a fantasticly massive 1950s-vintage 48" stove, with a unheated compartment off to the left of what must have been about a 33"w main oven compartment. This dominated the tiny kitchen it was in. From there I moved to another small apartment, this one with a cheapo 20" range, which makes me long for the 24" wall oven I had 3 apartments ago. I find 27" plenty wide for everything; I'd consider 30" more for the extra options available only in that size (i.e. Electrolux Icon single or double, and GE Advantium 240 wall ovens) that don't have a 27" equivalent. OTOH, some ovens, like the Gaggenau side-hinged ovens are available in 70cm (just over 27"w) but not 30".

Rozzzebud, did you ever figure this out? I am just finishing putting a 30" Dacor double oven into a 36" pantry cabinet and so I have the same issue. I was going to finish it with simple moulding, but a friend pointed out that the material from the framing on the doors would finish it out perfectly. Hope you had similar serendipity.

@CPArtist, Thanks for your input! Again, I put up the layout for fun (since the original is, really, interesting/unusual). This will be the 6th kitchen we've designed--we know that it probably won't look like the average American kitchen. We've had the trash near the sink, and much prefer it in the island, where the vast majority of cooking scraps end up. We've also had wide aisles, and find that we prefer what we're used to, which are admittedly not what most people suggest. Too wide and we feel it's awkward. It's yet to be a problem for resale. To be clear, also, the design rendered above is my 'sketch,' not what the contractor etc are using to actually build and design. It is a general idea. For how we live, and cook, it's much more functional than the original with the stove facing the opposite way with air behind a false wall. Again, thanks for your suggestions! If you have any experience with a 24" oven that you loved, I'm really looking for opinions there.

I know a double oven would be great, but I have a 27" w. oven now & I have trouble fitting some pans & cookie sheets in there. Seems like you're going backwards. I suppose you could just use a matching filler pieces, but would that hold the oven ? I don't know what holds the oven.
Or some appliance companies have trim kits, like for microwaves... you might check into that.
