We opted for cherry cabinets on the perimeter and an antiqued white island. Both have the same granite countertop (Blue in the Night antiqued). We have a 6' window over the sink along with a 9' patio door nearby. The kitchen is also now open to the dining room which has 3 windows, so the room receives alot of light. That might enter into your final decision.

Small world! Our cabs are Plain & Fancy. We're still in construction, so I haven't loaded them up yet, but I love their look. What were you thinking about going with?

We are not sure what brand we are going with yet, however I love the Canvas color with a mocha glaze from KM. We have a cabinet maker down the street from us so I am getting a quote from him as well! =)

I'm in NH too! We used Crown Point in Claremont, NH. We went the opposite way: off-white cabinets (Paper White) with stained island (Russet). Sorry this photo is so dark:

I have a very small kitchen. I have not taken pictures latley here is a picture during construction and a picture after its not too good.

OK, here goes. This is my 1st posting of progress pics of my new creamy perimeter with chocolate cherry island kitchen!
My kitchen is also not huge by GardenWeb standards and although it looks out onto new wall of windows opening to backyard, it has no interior windows. I was also concerned about dark perimeter cabinets making the space look dark.
We're happy w/the decision to go light on perimeter & dark on island.

i would go with the white perimeters and dark island for a couple of reasons. the first being more white does open a space up. the second reason is that if you are going to have seating at your island, a darker color will be better for kicking feet while sitting there. i don't have a stained island, mine is painted dark sage green and glazed black. i do have white perimeter cabs. i love the look of two colors/finishes. it adds alot of interest to a kitchen.

My kitchen is not finished, but all my cabinets are here in boxes. I am doing cherry inset doors with an applied moulding on the perimeter and a cream island. The island will have full overlay doors. The pics show my sample doors. The cabinets are Crystal Cabinet Works out of MN. The cherry is stained with a chestnut stain and has a black glaze. The cream is actually called frosty white with a vandyke brown glaze. Both doors have some distressing. The cream cabinet is my sink base for my island.

We did off-white perimeter and cherry island. Our butler's pantry, which you can't see in this picture, is also natural cherry.

Jeannie, Beautiful kitchen and very similar to one I have in the making! The cream perimeter and darker island cabinet is stunning! Love the glass doors with lights at the top of your wall cabinets...wish I could do that but my ceilings aren't high enough. Seeing your completed kitchen is encouraging. Thank you for sharing!
