so i like to see pretty things as i walk by or into the room. and i like to see pretty things as i'm sitting and rocking the kids to sleep. so what are your favorite pieces in the room? i'd want to put my favorites in front of the entry door, and then opposite the chair where you rock.

also, i'd tuck the changing table in the corner where it's not visible as much from the entry - let the etagere hide it a bit, but then i've just always hated looking at the changing tables in our house. :)

I would put the tall shelves in the corner by the window and then put the crib on that wall...I have a thing about sleeping babies and outside walls. That would leave the corners open. I'd put the rocker on the corner you see from the doorway and the glass fronted cabinet can be centered between the two windows. The changing table can be in the far corner.

@maggiepie, thank you! I bought it at an antique market about 12 years ago. It is made out of an old barn. Really neat! It has always served a purpose in our various homes. I do like it but this room, with the sloped walls, is hard to furnish with my existing pieces! I like what you have to say about seeing first what you love. I will love my rocker/glider and I do love my white shelves. That is why I love having the chair the first thing you see from the doorway. When I rock, I am looking at the crib (another love!) and the shelves. The changing table is actually a console that was passed down to me and we had redone in navy before my son was born. It doesn't totally fit the colors in this room but we are leaving it as is and will find another home for it once diaper duty is done, so it is good to get it out of the way visually!

@annie, thanks so much! I will play with that configuration if I can. That would involve my husbands help since that shelving weighs a ton. When you say changing table in far corner, do you mean the corner where I have the glass fronted cabinet in the last set of pictures? I'll have to see if it will fit there. The wall juts out (the slope). If I tuck it under the slope then it would be in front of that window, like it is now, but more in the corner. Hmmm...

@maggiepie, the light fixture is another love! It was in the breakfast area of the house and I had it moved upstairs. It hangs too low and it can't be raised any more, but I don't care. I tell my husband to duck. : )

Just did a little rearranging before nap. Here are pics with Annie's advice. I Iike it but still not sure. I am not a fan of having everything up against a wall, although in some rooms I know I serves a purpose. We have that in my son's room to allow for play space, but his room is smaller than this one. Any new thoughts? Like this best? Need me to move something? Not sure I like the changing table where it is. It will be blocking curtains.

Can you fit the changing table where that little green chair is? You could also fit the crib in the little alcove area where the changing table is now either flat across or jutting out in front of the window, moving the white shelves down towards the door, putting the green chair and rocking chair on either side.

@joanie, thanks for your input! The changing table is a littl longer than that wall where the green chair is and it would be blocking those curtains as well. I did think about putting the crib in that alcove but I don't want to have curtains by the crib for fear of her grabbing them. Unlike her brother, my daughter is a grabber!! She already latches on to those wood blinds constantly. So maybe it is all the windows that is causing me grief!!

i like how you currently have it. as you walk in the room, the chair/cabinet/light fixture are all in the sightline and it's lovely! from sitting in the chair you're facing the white shelves you love and the crib! i bet you'll like everything better when you get your window treatments up! :) pretty room like that shouldn't have nekkid windows. haha

I think the room is beautiful and has so many unique features. I think either furniture arrangement works. If this is your first child, may I offer a few suggestions? If I'm overstepping, I apologize.

with my first, we had to use special lights for the first few weeks, so having an outlet near the crib was important. I also found it helpful to have the crib and chair close to one another. Bumping around in the dark went over better with a short distance to travel.

My second and third are twins, and we spent a lot of time in the nursery. Having a table near the chair for some water, a book, tissue, etc. was a lifesaver. You might consider having a surface you can reach.

And, near the changing area, it might be helpful to have room for additional storage for diapers, wipes, etc. A shelf worked well for us.

Congratulations! I like your pieces. My children had a Jenny Lind crib. I still have it - can't bare to think of tossing. I love the barn wood piece.

I would pull the upholstered chair a little more toward the corner (last set of pictures). Also put the two children's chairs together with the small table between, instead of having three chairs spread out in the room. I like the wooden cabinet between the windows. I also like the crib away from the windows.

Can the changing table go on the wall where the wood cabinet was in your original post? Then the two children's chairs and table can go in front of the window on end wall.

What a lovely room! I like the changes you've made, but am wondering what it would look like with the wood cabinet where the white shelves are and the white shelves between the windows. That way you do not have both of the white pieces so close together and that puts the clothing closer to the changing table. Also wondering if there is enough room to turn the crib so it is sticking out into the room (similar the how you had it between the windows).

I like that placement a lot better.

Maybe try making a grouping with the two smaller chairs and the table and put that on the wall where the big chair is now, and put the big chair in the corner by the changing table. Also, I agree about everything up against the wall, so angle the big chair into the room, but leave some breathing space behind it.

@maggiepie, I agree that everything will fall into place with the curtains. I can't wait to get them up, not only because they are black-out (longer naps?!?!) but because they are white with punch/hot pink french tassel fringe. I have had them waiting since we moved in to get them up!

@ThreeBeez, not overstepping at all! This is my second and I agree with all you mention. This chair is temporary, as is the table that is next to it. Those belong in the master. But there will be an upholstered rocker and table that flows soon! We also had her light put on a dimmer and we have a nightlight which is more than enough for middle of the night feedings. As for the changing area, there is a shelf on the bottom with a basket that holds the diapers/wipes, etc. Appreciate your help!!

@allison, I have wanted this Jenny Lind crib for so long! With our son, we were in a small 1 bd apt and converted 1/2 the dining room to a nursery. Since space was limited, we bought a mini-crib. We sold it once he grew out of it and with our daughter I was able to get my Jenny Lind! So nice you still have yours. The child's rocker in the pictures is now in my son's room. The green floral slipper chair is staying in the room and I will move it around as needed but I love the idea of a reading nook in the alcove where the changing table is. Unfortunately the changing table doesn't fit on the wall where the slipper chair is so the only option now is either the nook in front of the window (where it is in the last set of pics) or angled, which I will show you below.

@bac, that is what I really want, for the white shelves to be between the windows, but the ceiling is too short there. The white shelves have to stay on the wall where it is currently. I can turn the crib perpendicular, which I will try, but it might block the walking flow of the room (it will be close to the door). Will see.

@annie, thank you!! I like seeing the big chair first as you walk in, so I don't think I want to move it to the other corner. I also relocated the child's rocker to my son's room for now.

Here are a few pics with the changing table moved slightly. I really like it this way aesthetically but functionally it isn't ideal. It is nice to have the table up against a wall to prevent my daughter from knocking things over, or rolling. So this might be my go to look when company comes calling. : )

No advice to offer here, but I really love the fabric on the upholstered arm chair. Do you know any of the details regarding it (either make and model of chair if it's original upholstery, or the fabric if it's been recovered)? Thanks.

@equest17, thanks! We love it too. Have it as a bed skirt and euro pillows on our bed in the master. It is a Duralee fabric that has been discontinued. I only know it is discontinued because we tried to get more about 4 years after we had the first few things made and that is what we found out.

Cut the étagère down to fit the shorter wall if you think that would give you more workable options. If they're the same height, would they fit angled into the corners of the two-window wall with the crib as originally pictured, using the other window wall and doorway wall to arrange the remaining furniture?

@java, excellent thoughts! Unfortunately having the white shelves on the short wall is what I want but not something that will give me more options. I tried the glass fronted cabinet on an angle in the corner where the big hair is but it doesn't fit. There isn't much wall space between that closet door and the corner. I also tried it on an angle in the opposite corner but it also blocks the window. Appreciate your input!

I think it's looking really good.

What you might want to do is cut a triangle out of wood and mount it to the wall behind the changing table at the same height as the table...it won't take up any visual space, but it will provide you with a little more work surface for powder and such. When the changing table is no longer needed, it will be easy to remove and patch the holes.

You might also consider turning the crib 90 degrees if the open space in the middle of the floor is troublesome. It would be nice maybe to have a torchiere lamp there on a dimmer so you can get soft uplighting at night when you have to tend the baby.
