I hate to say 'I hate my stepson', but it really feels like "hatred" that is in my heart. I'm so glad I found this forum. I feel like I need professional help, but I can't afford it. Anyway, how much more professional can you get than people who've actually been there. I need advice. Here's my story in a nutshell:
I am married to a wonderful man! I believe he is my soulmate. When I started dating him (5 years ago), he had sole custody of his son from a previous marriage. His son is now my stepson. I've been taking care of my SS for going on 5 years now. I've never really liked my SS much, but I forced myself to form a bond with him because I love my husband so much! I was at the beck and call of my SS until almost 2 years ago, when I became pregnant and then had my baby. This is where the real dilemma begins. I had no idea, even while I was pregnant, just how much I could love a child. But I love my daughter so very much (it surprises me how much sometimes). She is a year old now, and I never get tired of her! With my SS, I always loved it when his grandparents wanted to keep him for a night or a week or whatever, but I can't even let my little girl away from me for more than a few hours without missing her. Anyway - I could go on and on with background information, but here's what I really want help and advice about ---> I really can't stand having my SS around anymore... I mean, I've always been glad to see him go somewhere, but now, it's like I wish he would just disappear altogether! What's more, I can't stand him having anything to do with my little girl, and here's why - because doesn't listen to anyone, he doesn't follow directions, he doesn't try to do a good job at anything, he disobeys me every day and every day it's the same stuff I have to keep telling him not to do, and it's the same way for everyone - he respects no one, he torchures my cat, he is mean and selfish, and he's definitely old enough (11) to know better. If I scream and yell at him, he behaves for a little while, until I am in a good mood again, then he goes back to doing whatever he wants. I'm just so tired of putting up with him. He lives with us full-time - his mom has nothing to do with him. We don't even know where she is. My husband would like to see me be as loving to him as I am to my daughter, but the love just isn't there, and there's only so much faking you can do. He doesn't understand, because they are both his children, but only one is mine, and that is my little girl. My SS would like me to let him mess with my little girl, but he is so rough - he'll poke her and try and tickle her even if he can tell she doens't like it. He'll just keep on. He has no self-control and cares only about what he wants, not about what others want. This has been the case ever since i've known him. I've been trying to change it for a long time, but he won't change, because everyone else spoils him - everyone thinks that because he had health problems when he was a baby and his mom left him that we should treat him like royalty no matter how he behaves. As you can see by the way I'm rambling on, this is something that really bothers me. The bottom line is that I don't want my husband to be mad with me, so I hide the way I feel, but it's eating me up inside. I need someone I can talk to about all this. I don't now, and will not let my SS have anything to do with my daughter. He tried calling her "Sissy" when she was little, and everyone thought that was so cute, but when I had him to myself, I told him if I ever heard him call her anything but (her name), he would be answering to me and it woudln't be pretty. He has not called her anything like that again. I am pretty stand-offish and sometimes hostile to him (when no one is looking), so he's kind of afraid of me at this point. He knows not to cross me. I'm surprised he hasn't said anything to anyone in the family, but i'm sure he knows he's earned my anger. When I say he cares about nothing but himself, I am not exaggerating. And I don't want my little girl looking up to him as a "big brother" when there's nothing there to look up to. She should not aspire to be anything like him. I've talked myself in circles. I don't know what to do about the way I feel. Right now, I say as little as possible to my SS and focus only on how much I love my daughter and my husband, but sitting here at work, so many things come to mind that really tick me off. I don't let my SS touch my daughter (partly because I don't like him, and partly because his hygeine habits are atrocious - he will go poop and not wash his hands - he will sit at the dinner table and put his hands up the leg of his shorts and pull his penis out and play with it - remember, he's 11 - and I've been telling him to quit those dirty habits for 5 years... I've basically given up - I just avoid contact and I don't let him touch my daughter); my husband would like to get a babysitter and go out on dates (just the two of us), but I am extremely uncomfortable letting anyone else stay with my daughter and SS without me being there because I don't know what my SS would try if I weren't there to keep him away. Does anyone have any suggestions on how I can begin to deal with this?
