Beadboard Wallpaper Same Product from both sources

Ok, somewhere I promised to let you know if the beadboard wallpaper manufactured in the UK by Graham & Brown was the same product if ordered from either Home Depot or from Southern Hospitality, both online sources.

Yes, it is the same product. The same amount is on the roll. Home Depot sells one item 11 yds x 20.5" and calls it a "roll" and sells it for around $25. US.

Southern Hospitality sells the same product for about $25 also, but they call it a double roll or a "bolt" but it has the same label and the same 11 yds x 20.5" dimensions.

Both labels are exactly the same. Of course the pattern number (15274) is the same. What I find interesting is that the LOT number is also the same.....#001.

Sorry I cannot find the thread where the use of this heavy textured paper on cabinet doors and on wainscoting and in the back of cabinets was being discussed.

At this writing, I am anticipating adding it to the shed style ceiling of my recently redone enclosed backporch. Although the whole roof may come off later, at least I will get the practice in a noncritical application of the product.

We already have beadboard ceilings on the side porch (now an enclosed sunroom) and on the covered front stoop. I'm partial to the look. If it sticks good, I may just cover the trap door of the pull-down attic steps in the hallway between the two bedrooms.

ML That information is good to know. Thanks for your research. The only time I did something with wall paper it was the pre-pasted type. Since I was doing the inside of a trunk I really wanted it to stick. I also used the wall paper glue just to be good and sure it was stuck down. Loretta would be the one to ask how well it sticks with it's already pre-paste backing.

Have fun with this. I got in a hurry in my sewing room to get it done but I can always go back and add the paper bead board as wainscot later.

Moonkat, wow, it looks like you're making just great headway. I hope you're not overdoing it as I know overhead work is hard on you, especially on the neck. Ouch! If you have one of those seed-filled u-shaped neck pillows, you can put it in the microwave (for 1-2 mins, no more) just before bed and fall asleep with it wrapped around your neck. Yum. I do that every night all winter long. I'm so happy you got a sander you really like. The right tools make a huge difference to getting the job done -- or even wanting to. Hmmm... I ordered on the 26th, and the due date is "January 30, 2009 - February 4, 2009." I ordered through amazon.com but it's coming from the same place yours did. I am eager to see it - lol. ~~ Laurie, yes you can buy a kit (from http://www.elitetrimworks.com/home.php) but I was just doing my own thing and sort of copying the photo. I have a chop saw and I really like it, though I'm super careful with it because it could take off a finger in a blink. ~~ Helene, oh you did wallpaper over it. I am hoping after my mudding and sanding that my walls will be fine under the wallpaper. But I don't think they're good enough to do that other kind of panelling with the little boxes, at least not yet. The longer wall got super torn up from removing those boards. I like the idea of doing it horizontally. that could save time, too. I'll keep it in mind. ~~ Well, everyone, I am trying to decide if I can make the walls look good enough with the beadboard wallpaper, since the other way is so much work and I'm wearing out. What do you think? If you had a split entry, would you do beadboard panelling on the walls? Or opt for something more formal at your entry?

Thanks everyone! I love the idea of the pewter colors or lighter shade of the blue for towels and accessories. I was initially considering red but that seems too nautical. Mush- this is prepasted but I used paste too. I think it makes wallpapering easier since it slides a little bit more with the paste. I think the seams are invisible; I really pressed them down good. The seams look much like the real thing does when you add each piece of the wood paneling. My towel bars are above the chair rail. I had to use the sink height as my chair rail guide. I think the wallpaper liner which someone mentioned would be a good idea to prep a tiled wall before papering, but this textured paper is quite thick compared to regular wallpaper. Order a free sample and see what you think. I personally would not put this up in a full bathroom just because I have had horrible experiences removing peeling/lifting paper that resulted from my kid's excessively long,hot,steam-laden showers. So I just looked at some of the threads and realize that I hadn't considered whether this would be appropriate for the house/room. We have an American four-square that is nearly 10 years old. Unfortunately, we did not pay much attention to maintaining a certain style when furnishing the house. We just bought furniture and decorations we liked. Our dining room, where the beadboard wallpaper would go, is Queen Anne (at least that room is consistent), and it's just boring. We want to put the wallpaper about 1/3 of the way up the wall, with a chair rail. I do think it would look nice, but is that a bad fit with Queen Anne furniture and in a four-square? The thing is, we can't do anything too ornate b/c the dining room and living room are attached, and the living room is more casual. I thought beadboard would strike the right note. We did consider wainscoting, but that would be a bit of a pain to install. Also like some of the other paintable wallpaprs, but fear they are either (1) too ornate when compared to the living room or (2) too casual for the dining room. Help!

Agree that the seam should not have a gap in it. This can happen when not enough glue is on edges or mismatching. Make sure when you are laying on the paper that you push outward on the seams for the glue to gather there. Wallpaper is usually a bit stretchable and the seams can be set together without being seen. Wallpapering such a small vertical area would be easy to try with a roll, take note of the process, results, etc.. And easy to remove if it looked too fake...oops...faux. Also, as said, wallpaper in past was sold in double rolls and the sq. ft. is listed for coverage, not linear ft. I can't remember if the coverage is noted depending upon a pattern repeat or not. With beadboard there would not be a pattern repeat. The only issue with this paper is what Lov mentioned. The paper is a raised foam material, laying down and rubbing horizontal could show after the fact. Am wondering though if it bounces back to original pattern. There are many textures offered in this foam product and haven't heard of anyone having problems with it. Or if the wallpapering process is the same as for smooth. I think the paper also needs wood trim wherever it stops for a nice finish. Even where the wallpaper and counter meet. You wouldn't have to worry about a perfect cut, let the trim cover it. Plus a thin line of caulk to seal bottom and top. Specifically if used near water. On the blog I noticed they had not painted the undersides of the cupboards. Would be interested in hearing from those using this if it is the same wallpaper process...I always used a damp towel to go over for good attachment and smooth finish. With a flat plastic edger on the seams to push glue for better adhesion. The resilience for long term use....Will it retain shape if cleaned off in the future too. As much as I like beadboard, there is an ongoing need to keep clean in the crevices. And how workable the glue is. And how to finish the underside of cabinets. For a backsplash I feel staying with wood is a better option. Ceilings wouldn't have the water exposure, furniture and walls less abuse. Although I did get a fleeting idea of doing the side of my fridge to match the wood wall finish. Easy to remove if it looked stupid.

I really am curious to find out how hard it will be for you to paper the ceiling. Seems like it might be a 2 person job because your arms would get tired trying to get it into position. If you have success, then I might try the ceiling of my porch also. Good luck!

I'll let you know, Idie, because the direction I will go with the paper is not the long dimension of the room, but the short one. There is a seam down the middle of it, sort of like a board/batten ceiling. I can probably deal with 20.5" width x 3.5' length wet pieces.

Did you have to add any paste to your cabinet door job?
Or just use the prepasted amount alone?

Here is a helpful article showing how to use beadboard wallpaper.

I just used this product to cover old, damaged, ugly paneling in our back entry hall. It went up so easily and held just fine with the prepasted backing. Just make sure to "book" the wet paper for 5 minutes as per instructions. I painted the paper with white interior/exterior paint for durability in a high-traffic area.

It looks great---just like wooden beadboard.

Thanks for that link. I have Southern Hospitality blog in my links, but my memory is not the best. So now I have printed out the 28 PAGES of the writeup. I can find THAT for sure.

I did just like Paula did. It did not need any other glue. And once it is painted, it is on for good! I'm going to put it on my linen closet door also.

Had to dig for this one.

Just wanted to add I was at home depot and found some of this paper in the Tin ceiling look.Was the same length and width roll as the bead board and I think it was 12.99.

Was pretty.

That price of $12.99 is excellent. The beadboard, from both places, was around $25.00.....and I thought that was good.

Do you think the tin ceiling design could be applied in any other location besides a ceiling? Is it shiny? Or is it also unfinished?

If unfinished, and it is fairly small squares, it would give a less linear striped look to a ceiling. I think it would work nicely where there were no interruptions in the ceiling, like an attic stair coming down. I'm thinking of applying the beadboard to the back cover panel of my attic steps, which is framed by wood molding. I do love the beadboard.

It was the same width as the beadboard rolls. I think it was two squares across so it could be cut. My thought for it was to paper the inside of my cabinets since they are still the ugly fake wood. BUT yesterday I found a pile of vintage tin trays and set them on edge in the cabinets I look into all the time and it works for me. Not going to bother with it.

The squares are just like the beadboard.. Unfinished. Would need painting.

Rhoda has another wallpaper project on her blog, and I'm placing the link below. It is using the beadboard as wainscoting in a toilet room. Did the project in one day.

There is another project she called the wallpaper party, and I'll just throw it in right here in case someone missed it.

There are some products SIMILAR to the one she uses, but she does not recommend them as realistic looking. I can also attest that this paper, made to be painted, looks like the real thing.

Hi, to all of you! It's Rhoda, from Southern Hospitality & I'm so happy to see this post & the other one talking about the beadboard wallpaper. I loved it SO much, I added it to my online shop, so thank you Moccasinlanding for mentioning my blog & shop! I so appreciate any of you who have ordered from me.
