Merry Christmas From the Hogan 'Children'

Thought ya'll might need a laugh. The DH thinks I'm crazy evry year for taking them. This is the first yr. with all 3.

Very cute! We took our "kids" last year for pics with Santa at their boarding kennel. People don't understand that our Maltese are our kids!

As it should be - they're family. DD has birthday cake for her cats & dogs and ours. Each year she takes pictures of the birthday pet (being held by someone) and only once has one tried to eat his cake.

It snowed last night so everything is a blanket of white for Christmas day. I feel a little guilty, but I don't think it is too deep so I'm not going out with the snowblower til tomorrow. I'm the caregiver for my Mom, and it is just the two of us this year. We open presents on Christmas Eve, so we had a lovely night with the house decorated, the fireplace going and the tree all decorated and lit. Then about 11:00 pm as I was settling into bed but not asleep yet, I heard this funny thump and a tinkling. Uh oh, that can't be what it sounded like! Sure enough, go out to the living room and the tree had fallen over. Didn't fall out of it's stand, just tipped the stand and flopped over! Luckily only one ornament broken. Unfortunately, it was one of my favorites, my duck bell. If you are now scratching your head and going, "Duck bell???", it has a bell for a body with a duck neck and head on top and duck feet for the clappers. Very cute. Fortunately I think I can glue it back together. And I was very relieved that none of the older (my grandmother's and mother's) ornaments were hurt. Anyway, just stood the tree up again, filled up the water and everything seems back to normal today. We just had a simple dinner (lunch?) today, turkey and cranberries, asparagus, rolls and peppermint ice cream. And just for snacks, of course, we have 3 lbs. of See's candy and assorted cookies, fudge and other goodies in the house. Should be enough to last for awhile! Forgot to mention the wine we had with lunch, which will make Mom nice and sleepy. So I figure she will plop herself down in front of the football game and promptly fall asleep, thus giving me a restful Christmas afternoon to read or shop on the computer - my sister-in-law gave me an Amazon gift certificate. Which reminds me, Mom gave me a moth orchid for Christmas. First orchid I've tried, so anybody who has any tips, send them along. Also growing paperwhites this year (usually do amarylis). They are just starting to bloom. Look lovely. However, they are supposed to have a wonderful fragrance and while they do have quite a strong smell, I'm not so sure yet that it's wonderful. Maybe it will improve as they open more, or maybe I will get used to it. Merry Christmas, Happy Holidays to all of you and yours.

Merry Christmas Everyone!! Suzanne, I am glad that you got a chance to spend some time with your sister on her birthday. I love sitting in the quiet by candlelight too. something almost magical.. I just got contacts too! Maddie, I laughed so hard re those cookies. Sounds like something that would happen to me! I like Bj's suggestion about making a layered dish with them and vanilla pudding. What a clever idea! Relax and enjoy the bourbon.LOL Bj, I am not sure that I would have had as much patience if I had all that extra work sprung on me at what is always a very busy time. I would have helped you too, if I were there. In fact we could all have had a party! DeeMarie, the Good Carb Cookbook you sent is WONDERFUL!! I will be using it to plan my meals starting Monday. Thank you so much! Your Christmas party sounds like a lot of fun. I am making a large seafood platter for tomorrow as well: Jumbo shrimp, King Crab legs, scallops, crab salad served in a huge clam shell with bruschetta on baguette. I hope all is well with your DH and his kidney stones. No counting calories till Monday so don't worry about your MD appointment. Marci, I have been licking my fingers for 2 days! LOL How many cookies do you think we consume just licking those fingers, hmm? Raeanne, I am making bread today too. My kids got me a bread maker for my birthday and I am eager to try it out. I'll be thinking about you. I hope your package comes today... Enjoy the time with your DDs. Lynn, I like your positive attitude about that job! Life IS too short to be miserable. Better things are ahead for you I am sure (especially w/ such a great attitude) Patti, I can't believe that family won't climb over hill and dale to spend the holidays with you and Dave! I wish you were here to spend the day with us. We are going to church this evening as well and then on to look at some lights. Big hugs to Dave! Well, I am finishing the baking ( bread and cheesecake )and the wrapping. Almost done! I got DS tickets to see a concert up in San Francisco this March. He's never been there and I look forward to showing him around.These were very hard to get tix and he has no idea! I told his friend and he said "You are the COOLEST Mom!" Ha HA! I feel vindicated! After 2 weeks w/ no prednisone and a 5 day juice fast, I checked in at the Doc and am down 7 lbs!! I feel better than I have in a year. Thank-you Jessy! A most wonderful Christmas going here. I have in my lap "lee-lee" a fat tabby that loves to snuggle. Her owner is moving and can't take her much loved kitty so Lee-lee moved in with me this week. Lee-lee is a snuggle kitty that loves to crawl right up in my arms and lay her head on my chest. Horrible money problems most of the week. Bank threw me a curve by taking several weeks to approve a line of credit. I'm investing in a local business and we had to have our cash this week. We just made it saving four jobs and at least one home from the jaws of the recession. A group of us in on it so we are having a party next week to celebrate... beer and doughballs! Sis fed me spagetti for breakfast... finest chrismas dining a person could want. Topped it off with some merlot that tasted like cheap brandy and jalapeno chedder cheese from the local Amish farm. If I could do it over I wouldn't change a thing... it added up to perfection. Just me and the animals tonight. I got the kerosene lamps lit so the house has that soft gentle glow. A big chunk of strip steak that is going in the oven with some garlic for a slow roast... done about midnight. A run to Grandma's house tomorrow. Happy Holidays to everyone! : ) lyra

This indeed is a bit early for the year, this thread revival. I say what I want to say. If it is December 25th, I say Merry Christmas. If it is December 21st (MY actual holiday) I say Blessed Yule or Blessed Solstice. Otherwise, since there are so many of them, I say Happy Holidays. However, I will note if a shop clerk says "Merry Christmas" to me at checkout, I'll parrot back with the same. I hate seeing people bent out of shape over this "issue". The idea is that you are wishing someone something happy and joyful, or so I thought. PS, I call mine a Solstice Tree. I'm quite happy to call yours whatever you want me to call yours, as you probably don't share my religion, and so yours is probably a Christmas Tree. And yes, those things I mail out early December I do inevitably call them Christmas cards (although I don't buy the religious ones), and I hope we are still able to mail them this coming December. (You hear me, USPS???). And I love getting any I get, no matter religious, spiritual, or just simply fun the impetus is behind your sending them to me...

We tried that one year with our two furkids --- a little dachshund and a black lab/dachshund mix puppy. The pup was SO scared of Santa, he p00ped on Santa's lap!! Santa was NOT happy!! No more pictures with Santa for us - LOL!!

Your pups look very happy and well-behaved!!

The big one of the right is nervous all of the time. She's from the pound, our death row dog. The other 2 have had their pics made with santa often. The little black one in the center remembered the santa from last year. He was jumping on him like "hey, santa remember me". We don't have kids so these 4 legged one get "tortured" with my ideas.

Oh, I love the one on the right the best...no the one in the middle, oh, no- it's the one on the left. Heck, I can decide so I'll just take all three of those adorable lil' furbabies!

I have to be partial to Luci, the blonde. She sneezes on command. Sometimes you tell her to say "Please" & you get a sneeze. Ask if she's cold & she'll shiver. She loves her sweater. She gets (sneaks) into my car & is always ready to go to Grandma's house. It's quieter at Grandma's!!!!

FeFe's so big & clumbsy but sweet too & so eager for love. Little Jack, the baby, is his daddy's dog. He's your friend if daddy's unavailable. His daddy works from home most of the time & spoils him rotten. When he's left behind,which is not often, he pouts big time. He gets to go on most trips, even several days.

I sound like a grandma of "unfurry grands", don't I? Without them, I'd not be a grandma.

awww, your girls and boy are adorable! LOL Did they each get a doggie candy cane made of rawhide from Santa that day? LOL

Congratulations on a great "family". You are a lucky person. I wish you and DH and family a wonderful set of holidays. I hope Santa fills their dog bowls with lots of goodies.

Santa had alpo treats. Of course they (dogs) were snobs there and wouldn't take the goodies so santa gave them to me and I put them in my pocket. They gobbled them up once we were home.

I might let you borrow them, but DH would seriously harm someone if they tried to take "his" dog.

I love red's story about the doggy oops. DH would be mortified if that happened. He says he doesn't like this picture thing, but he bathed all of them and groomed them around their nails. Sounds fishy to me, LOL.
