star charts and responsibility

My BF and I have made some remarkable progress with his kids behavior while they are visiting us. (I used to be very annoyed; they used to be very unruly. Now, we mostly get along and I look forward to them coming.) WeÂve been talking about a better system of reward and discipline as heÂs not very consistent on this matter. For example his youngest boy (5 years old) has this nasty little habit of *really* screaming at adults and his brother when heÂs angry. Sometimes heÂs really good at putting him in timeout and explaining why. But last weekend it happened three times in three hours, and the 3rd time he gave him the cake he was screaming for! It drives me nuts. Anyways I digress. He agrees that posting unacceptable behaviors and their punishments on the fridge along with good behaviors / chores and their rewards would ensure consistency. We like the idea of awarding stars to earn prizes too. My question is (after all this ramblingÂ) how many stars should earn what prizes. I know it sounds silly, and weÂll figure it out as we go. But I was just wondering what other people do. And on a side note what chores and actions are/were your kids doing at the same age (5 and 7)? IÂm pretty sure the boys are slightly behind on the things they can do for themselves. (For example: when I moved in they were 4 and 6 and there was still a potty chair in the room at night, they ask to be spoon fed because their Grandma feeds them sometimes, they donÂt get themselves a glass of water, or squeeze their own toothpaste, neither of them can tie shoes and the 5 year old doesnÂt even wipe himself after the bathroom). I guess IÂd just like some feedback on what is "normal" for this age (whatever normal meansÂ), and if what I expect them to be able to do for themselves is accurate or not.
