Ideas for extra space in large MBR

Hello, I'm just looking for ideas for a few nooks I have in my MBR. The layout is quite odd and am at a loss of what to do with the extra space. The theme I'm after is Moroccan. I have no electronics in the room (TV, stereo, etc.) and will keep it that way. I have a spare bedroom designated as my office so I won't designate any area in the MBR as "work" related. I have a large walk-in closet so I don't have any dressers/armoires or the like and want to keep it that way. I just have a queen size platform bed and a nightstand. I also have two footlockers below the windows that will be replaced with storage benches below the length of the windows. I'm going to place a couch in one nook with half bookcase on both ends. The area (nook "A") that I need help with is raised 43" off the floor, 10'4" wide, 44" deep and is 53" high (to the ceiling). Adjacent to that nook is a wet bar that I'm going to rip out (I don't entertain in my bedroom) which is 49" wide and 28" deep. That will be the other empty space (nook "B"). I thought of placing stairs up to Nook "A" when I rip out the wet bar but what can that space be? I don't want it to be another seating area as I don't bring guests to my MBR to hang out and it's just me and my small dog living here. Follow the link to pics of the nooks in question. Do you need more closet or storage space? This could be framed out and shelves/doors added. Are you a reader? Great bookcase option. What is under the nook? If nothing it could be removed. I'd love to have this much room to play with.

Thanks for your input, emagineer. I have a walk-in closet so I don't need more closet space and I have plenty storage space in the garage. Although I did think of it. I considered putting a series of small bookcases there also with, perhaps, a ladder leading up to it. The stairs to the garage is under the nook (from the entryway which is on the other side of that wall). This room is extremely odd but I love the possibilities.

I got two large very nice (and matching) doggie beds at Target. Microsuede beige on one side (for winter), and a subtle sage green cottony print on the other (for summer). My dogs love them. Covers zip off to wash. And there's room to add memory foam if you want. For the memory foam....I have old memory foam pillows that I could slice and put in their beds (human pillows are thick)....OR...I was thinking that one day I'd buy a twin size memory foam on a good sale (usually at Penney's). That's large enough to cut into two for the dog beds, with some left over. Oh, and one of the dog beds I got at Target was on a great sale. When I saw my dogs loved the bed, I went back to get another one, but they weren't on sale anymore. I would never pay those high prices I see online or in some stores. As for the pet stores, I've seen lately they are coming down in price, I guess to be competitive with the discount stores.

Dog/cat boarding? Day Care? Grow mealworms to sell to pet stores or bait stores. Grow exotic/heirloom/baby vegetables or Shitake mushrooms to sell to restaurants. Advertise in Craigslist. Think of what you like to buy at flea markets or farm markets. Think like the Amish. What do they make that people like to buy? Can you cook?! Are you able to make custom bird houses/feeders? Can you fix lamps or radios? Go to a local fair and talk to the people who have booths. You can either rent a space for a nominal charge or meet someone at a fair you have an interest in and strike up a conversation. Someone might not mind sharing the future cost of a table if they know someone is willing to help. What about providing a service on a regular basis? Put an ad in the local paper. It doesn't have to be temporary. Mowing yards can lead to landscaping work, can lead to gutter cleaning or snow plowing. I've hired tree workers to clean my gutters when handymen were too busy. The possibilities are endless!

Yes Helen that is the goal I am going for just a separate comfy living space that I can relax in that isn’t always in the eye of people who walk into my house. On our first floor we do have a separate office space for my husband as he works from home every day but on the occasion I do work from home it would be nice to work somewhere that isn’t my kitchen island or my dining table but since I don’t do it often I don’t need a dedicated office of my own, just a small desk in this space would work fine. Our main floor has: Living Room/Dining Combo Kitchen Office Bathroom Guest room (the guest room has a pullout couch in it with a tv). We entertain a lot during the holidays so we didn’t want this to strictly be a guest room so we could use it for extra entertaining space. I also have young nieces and nephews so it doubles as a guest room when they sleep over We also have a basement that is half workroom/laundry and the other side is finished which I have yet to do anything with besides storage. I don’t really want this space to be another guest room - I like the separation when guests stay over since there is another bathroom on the first floor and I have a room dedicated for guests already. I do like your idea of a coffee maker/mini fridge. Perhaps I could add a small bistro table with two chairs...

Ok let me start out by saying you do not need a huge fixture there, or a chandelier, In fact, your options would open way up if you started looking more at entry fixtures. This one is kind of plunked if you will, in no man's land. The only good view of it is at the landing area, otherwise, you are looking at bulbs from the top. Or you would have to crank your neck from the bottom to even look at it. If you change the entry fixture, you should also change the landing fixture. I would consider putting a recessed light in the landing or a semi-flush, this way there is only one "star of the show." Also, you would be better off to look at oil rubbed bronze over black as it will lend itself to more paint finishes. satin nickel (imo) is rather dated builders look for an entry. I see a chandelier in your dining area there that would be a good jumping off point for you. I'm not saying dont hang a chandelier, but if you have searched the entire internet..maybe a little gear shift wouldn't hurt

i had some extra space in my master bedroom, and it had great sunshine facing south with a beautiful view of the garden..i put in a roll top desk and chair, and now i can sit at the desk and write letters or do paperwork and look out over my garden with such peace and quiet..i totally totally love it.

One thing to do..........The short wall to the right of the coffee bar is not a supporting wall, and could be ripped out when you rip out the sink and cabinet. This would eliminate one of the "nooks" and open the room up a bit.

If you truly do not need the upper platform for anything useful, I would just put decorative doors over the space and close it off. Maybe sometime down the road you will need more storage space and it will come in handy.

Definitely odd, but interesting. How about making it into a "safe room" area? Is that carpet on it? If nothing else, I would do as suggested above and put doors on it to use as storage for large items.

You could replace the bar area with bookshelves. Paint the walls "inside" a nice warm color. Add a small set of stairs in front of the platform. On a heavy duty rod across the top, hang long gauzy fabrics that can be tied back. Add adjustable recessed lighting, and wall lighting. Line the "floor" with some type of padding and add big colorful pillows. Hang a picture on the long wall that can be viewed through the curtains.
