If you are going for her 80's look, I don't think I ever saw one with an actual crinoline. I think her petticoat were layers of ruffled tulle or similar fabrics; very much like a 1950s full skirt petticoat but much shorter. You should be able to alter one you have, or make one fairly easily with a sewing machine. You can double up the layers with the part you cut off by sewing it on. I think I'd have to see the costume. That being said, folks who are in the news tend to be prime candidates for halloween costumes (I remember going to a party as a trapped Chilean miner a few years back). That's just how it works. Taste is in the eye of the beholder. I was trying to think of other recent "current events" costumes that would be controversial and thought of JayZ and Beyonce's sister, or Tiger Woods accompanied by a harem of women, or -- and I'm not sure how one would properly effect these costumes -- Josh Duggar or Jared the Subway spokesman. I think the lampooning and the controversy is part of it all, at least as far as adult costumes go. I'm thinking the typical Caitlyn costume will be a flowing gown, wig, makeup, heels . . . worn by a man.

A few years ago a friend of mine and her husband had a very unique couples costume. He wore a black and white stripes shirt and black pants as a football ref and she wore a yellow sheet. He would blow his whistle and she would fling herself to the ground. She of course was his yellow flag on the play. It was hilarious. She was very dramatic on the flinging herself. I too saw someone go as dinner for 2, he had a cardboard "table" around his waist, table cloth, table set with dishes for 2 and wine glasses. He wore the waiters outfit and was serving a bottle of wine. He won the contest. He really did an excellent job on the whole setup. Another cute one I saw a couple do, husband dressed as a hobo or homeless person and the wife wore a big brown cardboard box. His refrigerator box home.

We got it. Whew!
