Oh my gosh zipdee, you are one lucky lady! I love the all white, but think a little color would look awesome. You could always add that in cushions or toss pillows which can be changed on a whim much easier than changing the color of your metal pieces. White is so fitting your style of porch too.
I'd keep the wicker, at least for now. Who knows, hubby might find you a couple more metal chairs. I'd keep it all situated just like you have it now too. Looks absolutely beautiful!

Wow, what a great hubby! He did a beautiful job on your glider. I really like that pastel turquoise color. It plays so nicely with the yellow house and the green foliage. I like it better than the white. It looks soft and fresh, and inviting. Needs lemonade!

I totally agree with oceanna. The pastel turquoise is just gorgeous with your house. To my eye, it does not look like too much furniture on the front porch - it looks extremely inviting.

Anyway, I don't see how you can go wrong with any color, since these pieces are just so perfectly perfect for your front porch. I do really, really like the aqua, which is reading as that luscious robin's egg blue that I like so much, on my monitor. I really like your current arrangement. I think it fits your porch nicely, and I like the wicker pieces with the metal ones too. I think I'd like to see the metal pieces all painted the same (with the white insets left white), and the wicker chairs left white. I think that by adding cushions, you are really going to make the pieces sing, and that's where you can get really creative and "go wild", bringing in more color if you choose.

I can hardly wait to see what you decide. As I said, I just don't see how you can go wrong, no matter what you do. Your porch is already adorable, but it's just going to positively ooze charm and character once the pieces are finished.

First of all, you ARE lucky, and I have total glider envy. I rented a place with one of those old gliders on the front porch, they are heavan. But to have a whole set . . . be still my heart. I'm going to address the third issue:
"If use it all on the front porch how should I place it? The porch isn't really wide enough for the chairs to face the gliders, it's too tight of a squeeze." I wouldn't have it all facing out. I would arrange it in an "L" or on three sides. When I have friends over we sit on the porch a lot and I think an L shape would be better for conversation and to make it more like a room. I'd add a white wicker coffee table to the new set, to tie the two sides of the porch together.

Wow, what nice furniture! I love the turquoise (though I prefer the white with your house, don't paint the new set if it doesn't need it). My DH would never think of stopping at a tag sale for something if he was by himself. I'm the tag saler/dumpster diver/CL shopper LOL!

I don't know of the LS is too big to go at the end of the porch 90 degrees to house? I could see the chairs on either side of the window, and a small wicker table b/t them. Don't think your porch is deep enough for a coffee table?

If the LS won't fit, maybe you can put it in back?

Thanks so much for the help and opinions! My husband is a great guy and very thoughtful, I'm very fortunate to have him.

Part of me wants to paint them a color, part says white with cushions and pillows. I might live with them out there for a couple of days and see which grows on me. In the picture they look light aqua, but they are really a bright jadeite kind of color. They really need to be stripped, they've been painted many times and the basket weave details are blurred under all the paint.

I had the larger glider at the end of the porch at a 90 degree angle, it fit there well and looked good .. but the chairs don't really fit in the remaining space next to the window with out being too squished unfortunately.

My3dogs .. yes, he stripped them by sand blasting them and a few very stubborn areas required he take a grinder to them. Then he sprayed it with an automotive rust inhibiting primer, then automotive paint. The glider had so many layers of paint on it the basket weave was almost obscured, now the details look so crisp and clean. I'm really pleased with how it turned out.

Zipdee, just want to say how much I enjoy each and every one of your posts. Your home is so beautiful - and it surely sounds like you and your DH and your daughters (and dogs and cats and chickens) truly enjoy each other - and enjoy all of the projects you work on together. Your DH sounds like a prince! I read the post about your neighbor's house - note I said house, not home - and no matter what they do to theirs, yours will always be the shining gem! I have a wonderful DH, but can never imagine him stopping at a yard sale to buy matching lawn furniture. No matter what color you paint it, I am sure that will always be a treasured memory of his love for you! Enjoy!
PS --- I always think of you when I admire my front porch railings and how kind you were to post the inspiration last summer. I don't know that DH would have tackled the project otherwise ---

Whaaa??? You might repaint? I missed the thread! No, don't do it! Your color is perfect! Ok, I'm a little biased since I too have a yellow house. ; ) But seriously, it is so perfect. I better go find that other post and see what your neighbors did.

Love the gliders and chairs. I would paint them white for now and tie everything together with color through pillows, plants and other accessories of your liking. White might seem a little boring at first but it is so versatile - goes with everything. And changing out pillows, etc. is a lot less work than repainting if you don't like the color.

You really cannot go wrong whatever you do on that lovely porch, but I'd prefer to mix it up a bit with the wicker, placing the new set(darling!)on the deck. I agree with angelcub here, and since I like change I'd probably go this route. However, lots of changes can be worked around a soft color...the pale aqua, for example, vs. a brighter shade. Oh heck! Do whatever your heart dictates. You've certainly not gone wrong thus far! Be sure and let us see the results. I'm hoping you'll include another pic taken during a summer downpour ('gully-washer' my Gran called them)! Sigh. :>)

Correction! I just took another look and now take back my first impression. The two groupings look great on the porch...as does the wicker, so I guess I have no opinion left....only jealousy remains!

No-green-thumb .. what a nice post to read, thank you. My household is crazy at times, but I wouldn't trade my DH, my girls, dogs, cat, chickens or Mr. Bun for the world. I'm very glad the instructions that I put up helped you all out!

Angelcub .. the people across the street very recently painted their home the same yellow as our house. I had posted for suggestions on whether to repaint or not, and everyone here very graciously helped me out, including Squirrel doing some wonderful mock-ups for me of different colors.

Leahcate, this is exactly what I was wondering. I like the wicker mixed in with the metal furniture too. I love the picture that I posted of the metal glider painted the lime green and then they picked up that color on the cushions of the wicker. I like the two wicker chairs flanking the large glider that we have. I wonder how a wicker swing would look on the other half of the porch? Then do the same thing, paint the glider a brighter color, and pick up the color in the wicker cushion. Paint the little glider and chairs to match, but put them on the back deck .. that way there is continuity from the front to back of the house. Before I can put a metal set out there, I need to buy a retractable awning for the back deck though .. I've always wanted one for out there.

Zipdee, I love your metal furniture, and I think your idea of mixing it up is a good one. What a sweetheart your DH is for finding matching pieces for you (and refinishing the glider, which turned out gorgeous)!

I used to have a metal chair with a floral cutout on the back. I loved it, and everyone made fun of me because I loved such an old-fashioned thing. I somehow lost it in one of my moves, but I'd love to have it back.

Hoosiergirl, I love the metal furniture with the floral cutouts, so cottage looking. People seem to be drawn to the gliders .. almost everyone that's come up on the porch says aw neat .. my grandma, my great aunt, my mom had one. They seem so far to be the prefered place to sit for visitors too, even the kids seem to like them more.
