Lots of soap success this week, since I've been at my parents' house and they love my kid so much I hardly have to talk to him while I'm here.

This is a lousy digital pic, but you can get the idea...

I made soap! I made soap! (I've made soap before, but in recent weeks I' ve made a lot of ugly stuff that might clean your bod but nobody would pay for it. Does this look like stuff that somebody might buy??)

This reminds me that wherever possible we don't spray with soap, but carry around a small bucket of soapy water and drop the pests into that. For instance, snapping off the tops of broad beans infested by aphids, knocking bean weevils off the plants, shaking the earwigs collected overnight in overturned strawberry boxes - all into the bucket. Then dump the soapy water on the ground outside the garden. The good thing about Dr. Bronner's is that it is soap, and the ingredients are listed on the bottle. It can be really time-consuming to find out the ingredients in commercial dishwashing liquids.

Hey bubblefairy, What kind of soap did you make with parsley? What is chickweed? I haven't made soap in awhile and now is probably not the time to get back to it. Our house is up for sale - a showing every couple of days it seems, sigh. I will be so happy when it's sold. I used a book, The Soapmakers Companion, wonderful recipes, everything turned out great. Well, the milk and honey soap was a bit soft. Maybe I should have let it cure longer but it was so nice and smelt good enough to eat. I made one with calendula petals from my garden so I understand where you're coming from - totally addictive, fun and everybody who received a bar of soap as a present acted as if I was a genius.

Hi Richie/Abi here. My hubs Gary tried soapmaking one year for his Christmas craft project. I think he got his ideas from a book from the library. He wound up making and giving these great soap rounds with loofah in them. He bought the soap supplies from a craft store like AC Moore. (check their class schedules, they may offer a class). My mother and grandmother used to make soap every year for laundry washing and housecleaning! They taught me how. It involves rendering pounds of animal fat and combining with LYE and a lot of cooking. It smelled horrid and hurt like the dickens if you got splashed. They always cooked it outside on a fire. I always begged to be sent to summer camp that week. The stuff sure did get stains out though. /Abi

Thanks! Most of the embeds are simple curls - I used a cheese planer and made purple and clear curls, then put 'em in the mold and poured over... The stars are out of the IKEA star icecube tray. The other embeds are just chunks. Nothing fancy, but they look pretty cool.

I made honey oatmeal, lavender mint, lavender tangerine, lemon eucalyptus rosemary, sandalwood/cedarwood and a lemon soap that is really just all my mistakes chopped up and poured over. That is truly one of the coolest things about m&p - no mistake is final!

They look wonderful!!!! Congratulations!!! Don't you just love it when everything turns out?! I've been playing with scent combinations and boy oh boy, do I have a huge "oops" basket. So I love when something comes together! Great job!!!
