Tumbled Travertine for Backsplash
Comments (6)Gage - It's a custom color, the 2nd link above is DR pic which also happens to be custom - that color is matched to one in the wallpaper. I just got tired making choices in a whole house renovation - the local paint guy was great & very willing - Just thought the color scheme in general may help you w/your choices. If you have a good paint shop you could print out those photos bring sampls pieces of your kitchen & head to paint store good luck...See MoreTravertine or tumbled marble backsplash
Comments (14)Found this on a FAQ About Using Stone in Your Home: TRAVERTINE Â Travertine is marble, except it is filled with "holes." To understand what causes the holes, think of it this wayÂwherever a river or stream was prior to the marble being quarried is where you will find travertine. Because of the holes, people can be scared off because travertine is generally thought to be more porous and not suitable for residential use. This is not the case, as all of those holes become filled in with grout during installation, giving it a very unique look. The same travertine can be used in two separate areas but appear another way just by using two different grout colors! Travertine can be purchased with the holes pre-filled, but in my experience with it, I don't recommend it. In general, the epoxy fill that is used has a color to it that does not look natural to the stone and it has a tendency to come out after a short amount of time in high traffic areas. Expect to pay anywhere from $5.00 Â $15.00 per square foot. Here is a link that might be useful: Here's the link...See MoreCan I mix polished and tumbled marble in backsplash?
Comments (10)Kitchenchaos -- have you posted photos of your backsplash yet? I would love to see it. Thanks. In the meantime, I'm posting a link to my kitchen photos (ignore the white kitchen -- it's the 'before') in case someone would kindly like to give me some backsplash advice. I can surely use it! Thanks. Here is a link that might be useful: fromflorida's new kitchen in need of backsplash...See Moredark counters - tumbled stone subway tile backsplash: photos?
Comments (2)Hi Grannabelle, We just finished our kitchen a few weeks ago, and we put in the 3 x 6 inch tumbled travertine subway tiles ("Philadelphia" with the creams and beiges and grays) against our dark, "Tiramisu" granite. We don't really have a significant backsplash area, so I think the subway tile look works to give it enough interest but not overwhelm the small areas where we have it...I'm posting a few pix......See MoreLily512
