Two new double-oven induction ranges: Maytag v Whirlpool?
Comments (6)I think you'd be pleased. I've used the cooktop on hers and it is awesome. She bakes a lot. She cooks a lot. Her whole family cooks. Constantly. It's like a religion for them. Everyone loves the Whirlpool. It hums a bit more loudly than my Bosch cooktop, which barely makes a sound. But it is only a hum and last time I asked her about it, she gave me a blank look. She had ceased to notice it. But I think the two ranges are about the same -- go to AJMadison and download the manuals for both and you'll see what I mean -- so you should choose based on looks and price, I think. I am just glad to see good induction ranges at this price point....See More220V to 110V for gas range
Comments (10)The 50A 2-pole breaker should be (in effect) a pair of 50A single-pole breakers tied together. The replacement single breaker should be sized according to your stove's installation guide. As I recall, NFPA 70 allows light duty (e.g., a clock) devices to operate on this circuit, but it cannot be a general purpose circuit supporting other kitchen appliances. I'm not sure if the latest code requires it to be GFCI protected, even if blocked by the stove from being used for other functions....See MoreCapital v Five Star v KitchenAid? 36" dual fuel range or rangetop?
Comments (2)Don't get a cooktop. You waste valuable real-estate by moving the knobs to the top, and with gas tops, reaching over hot pots to get to the knobs is very annoying. Get a rangetop instead. Having the knobs in the front works much better. On the other hand, if you decided on induction, then cooktops seem more common; but then, they also don't suffer from the same issue of lots of hot air rising around the pots. As for wall ovens, I'd recommend getting at least one CSO. Miele makes a particularly nice plumbed model. It might seem smaller at 24", but I'll bet that it'll be your most frequently used appliance. I have a strong preference for Bluestar's open burners. They are super powerful, have a good low-end, and you won't find any gas stove that is easier to clean. Of course, induction makes cleaning even easier. I actually do like my Bluestar oven. But it does require at least 20-25min to preheat for the 30" model. A 36" oven will take even longer. On the other hand, my Miele CSO is ready to use within minutes....See MoreKitchen: Wolf 36 Gas Range w/ Griddle & Wolf v Dacor Range
Comments (9)Do you use a griddle now? I would consider an overlay griddle instead of a built in. The one I have(Royal industries)is 15”x23” and is about 50% bigger than a 2 burner built in. I have a Wolf range. It can be bigger because it is made of heavy aluminum which has much better heat transfer properties than steel so heats more evenly. It comes in bare aluminum which seasons over time and nonstick. With a built in you have about half of the power, somewhere around 15K BTUs. You can set the griddle anywhere you want or you have the flexibility of using all six burners. I have picked up my griddle and put it in the oven. You can take it to the sink to clean. These are Royal Industry overlays. They are pretty inexpensive. http://royalindustriesinc.com/index.php?main_page=index&cPath=4_22_48 Chef King makes a similar griddle out of steel. With the built in, you have a thermostat so you can repeatedly turn it in to a certain temperature and get that amount of heat. If you go this way, look how the different brands are built. Wolf uses an infrared burner to get a more even heat. The steel is twice as thick as BlueStar. BlueStar uses this burner on the RNB griddle. Thermador uses an aluminum griddle and an electric element....See Morepbrisjar
