Ouch. Sorry to hear that. My 1st thought was to scratch it all up and see if it blends. But then I'd be scared it looked worse. How did it get scratched like that?

I would buy a sink grid and put that in. Ideally your sink has an accessory sink grid that can be purchased for it? That will camouflage the scratches some, and also protect your sink bottom from future scratches.

I think with a steel sink grid, the scratches won't be nearly as noticeable.

It will eventually look fine but I wouldn't scratch it further. Maybe you can sand it a little with a fine grade of sandpaper or steel wool - others would know better what to use.

Liquid Bar Keeper's Friend is recommended to minimize scratches. It would not hurt to give it a try.

I also think you should try to get a grid for this. Not only will it camouflage the scratches that are there, it will prevent new ones....

Scratching is unfortunately one of the biggest down sides of having a stainless steel sink, there is a great product made by Franke INOX 903 Polish it is not a cleaner but more of a polish try not to use it unless you have scratches or water markers you gets get rid off with just a regular SS cleaner, I will post a link below hope this helps, Good Luck! - KBAuthority

Thanks. I washed out a crock pot this morning and after I noticed these. GEEZ! This is an expensive 16 guage sink from Home Expo so it's not like I cheaped out it's just the material I guess. I'm so bummed. I'm going to home depot to get a sink grate like you mentioned and I have some barkeepers here so I will try that first. Then on to the Franke Polish. Thanks everyone.

I saw the scratches, the first few times they happened on my sink, too. Now I'm 15 months in and my sink doesn't look scratched at all. I assume because it all just becomes a fine network of scratches and not ONE BIG ugly one.

OMG!!! KMOL I LOVE YOU! I didn't have liquid so I used the powder. It looks amazing! Did I just ruin my sink doing this?! That is okay to use right? Holy cow! It looks brand new again. You can still see a couple faint scratches but the big ones are gone and no one would notice but me. I hope this was okay to use the powder and scrub it. It worked too good now I'm worried I did something wrong. Hee hee :) The back said for sinks. I use it on my cookware. I can't get over it!!! I'm going to buy 10 cans of this stuff and the grates for my sink. THANK YOU.

GULP, WOW!!!! I'm going to have to get some of that Barkeeper's Friend......my old SS sink might like a touch of that if those are the results! Your sink looks like new again!

I strongly urge you to get the sink grids to avoid this happening over and over again. They are wonderful. I am also amazed at the barkeepers friend!!!!

Wow! My dear son scratched the front edge (two big scratches!) of our stainless steel apron front sink the second day after it was useable, and I have been trying really hard not to be upset every time I see it. After all, he WAS doing the dishes...

I am going to have to see if I can find some Barkeeper's Friend around here somewhere-your sink looks brand new again!

Good job on the Barkeeper's friend. It is the miracle stuff.
WARNING: Never use steel wool on stainless steel anything. You will leave tiny bits of the wool that can rust over time. Always use a scotchbrite pad if you have to do anything like this.
Also, try Flitz. This will help keep it looking new.

Your before and after pics could be an ad for Barkeeper's Friend! That is seriously amazing, and I'm so glad it worked so well for you.

I have been using Barkeeper's powder on my SS sink since last July and it always looks great. I never use the scrubby side of the scotchbrite pads though -- I use the sponge side and it works really well. After almost a year, I only see very small, fine scratches -- nothing bad at all. If I have guests then I also spray my ZEP for SS (from HD) which really shines up SS brilliantly.

We got a 16 gauge ss sink recently and have not been using a grid (don't really like the look of it). I did notice it's a bit scratched up. Maybe I'll pick up Barkeeper's Friend and give it a try.

Minette, so just like once a month or so, use Barkeepers Friend and the sink will look like near new again?

I used the scratchy side of a blue (non scratch) scotch brite pad. Is that not okay? I will try the sponge side next time and see the result I get with that first. I had to scrub pretty hard but it sure looks GREAT. :)

I got my Barkeeper's Friend at BB&B when I bought my All Clad several years ago. They suggested Casabella scrub sponges. They are similar to the scratchy side of a blue scotch bite pad.

Lex, I use Barkeeper's probably more than once a month -- more like once a week or so, but I also cook a lot so my sink often needs a good cleaning. I've had no bad effects from it, so I use it when ever... :)

Jan, I don't know if it's OK or not to use the scrubby side of the sponge, I'm just afraid to use a scrubby on SS!

Buy sink grids for your sink - an ounce of prevention.....
