brand new stainless steel sink - brown stains/scratches
Comments (14)I am sorry Tibbrix, but I do not agree with your instructions. To clean a stainless steel sink, use Barkeepers Friend on a sponge (not a scouring ball or any abrasive pad), and dry with a paper towel or microfiber cloth. From the Kohler website: - Always apply stainless steel cleaner/polish with a nonabrasive cloth or sponge, working with, not across, the grain. - Do not use steel wool, wire brushes or abrasive sponge pads. - Cleaners containing chloride are not recommended. If used, rinse the surface immediately to prevent corrosion. From the Franke website: Never use steel wool to clean your stainless steel sink. Persistent stains, including rust, can be removed with a variety of mild non-abrasive stainless steel cleaners such as FrankeâÂÂs Inox cream, Autosol Shine, and others. Always rinse thoroughly after using any cleaner. As a sidebar, and I am sorry to contradict Hollysprings whose posts I always think are excellent, I have had 2 Silgranit anthracite sinks in previous homes with hard water, and neither ever showed mineral spots. This is one of the leading reasons why people choose Silgranit sinks over stainless steel. Comments (2)So many different kinds of composite sinks out there, you can't just make a blanket statement like that. If the local appliance store wasn't more specific than what you've written, find a store more knowledgeable. Why are you shopping for a sink at an appliance store? If you are looking for a composite sink, I suggest you check out Blanco Silgranit sinks. They don't scratch, and any cracking that is possible would happen in transit by poor suppliers who don't pack it well. If you buy from a reputable website, like qualitybath for example (I have no affiliation with them), the Silgranit sink will be packed well, and arrive undamaged. Once installed, it will not crack. Why is the word "faucet" in your subject title?...See MoreHow can I get scratches out of stainless steel sink?
Comments (6)Keeping it clean with a good all purpose cream type cleanser and buffing it as part of cleaning will render it to the condition where stainless "is what it is" I keep soft rag or two and the specific cleanser in a size container I prefer very close under the sink and do this frequently. Don't like dirty and dull but stainless will not stay scratch free or super shiny. It becomes satiny...but "keeping it up" is a nice gesture for this working area of the space....See MoreHow to get black marks/scratches out of corian Sink?
Comments (1)Yes, you need to get much more aggressive. As in pop the sink strainer and put an 80 grit paper on a rotary sander like a Festool 150. You'll need a dust mask. Even after that, they may come out, they may not. You may have to re-rout the strainer flange rabbet, freehand with a laminate trimmer and a straight bit. Or cut the sink out and replace it:...See Morejjkadaba69
