Ice Tea Stains in Stainless Steel Sink?
Comments (9)First thing I reach for is the baking soda--it's handy, it's cheap, it's non-toxic and anti-bacterial. And takes care of many stains and tough cleaning problems. If that didn't work, my next choice would be Bar Keeper's Friend--really good product. I like it for polishing my brass handrail on my wrought irong railing. Job used to take me a good half hour with brass polish--BK'sF cuts the time down to about 10 minutes!...See Morevent: argh: toddler scratches 1day old stainless steel freezer
Comments (33)Sorry to have taken everyone off topic. What happened is that my daughter hit a patch of black ice on her way to work. Inexperience and an empty pickup were a bad combo. There were several things to be thankful for. My dh had tools in the truck and she had text books...all flying around her head as she turned over and over. She said she had visions of being killed by a wrench or her own math book! (So what you carry loose in the car can be a big problem) The side of the road she was traveling on has a big drop-off on one side, but she crossed the road and ended up upside down in someone's driveway. It was early Sat. morning, so there were no other cars around to be involved. That big crunch in the truck was from a brick lamppost she hit while flipping. Even though it was solid, about 2 x 2 ft and planted 4 ft into the ground with concrete, it was completely pulled out. Just thankful the box of the truck hit it instead of the cab. She ended up with bruises from her seatbelt and a new respect for cold mornings. (There was no frost or anything to indicate ice should be a problem that day, but there were so many accidents no policemen even made it to hers, since it was 1 car, no injuries.) God apparently had more things for her to accomplish, and we're glad of that. My heart flips and my stomach turns every time the phone rings when I know the kids are on the road. Our 3rd is just about ready for her license. The driving thing does add a whole new, scarier dimension to parenting! Now, back to scratched fridges, from before I got so dramatic!......See Morestainless sink...scratched. :( *picture
Comments (21)Wow! My dear son scratched the front edge (two big scratches!) of our stainless steel apron front sink the second day after it was useable, and I have been trying really hard not to be upset every time I see it. After all, he WAS doing the dishes... I am going to have to see if I can find some Barkeeper's Friend around here somewhere-your sink looks brand new again! I wish the sink grid for my sink wasn't so spendy, but I suppose I should just get it ordered....See MoreWhat is the best brand of farmhouse stainless steel sinks?
Comments (15)Mayflowers - the story about a company's stainless sinks "disappearing from the landscape"--which is a rather dramatic way of saying the sinks were no longer offered for sale--was about the TICOR company, not Kraus. Regarding rust on stainless steel sinks, even well-known stainless steel sink manufacturers like Franke and Blanco warn about rust appearing on THEIR sinks from using steel wool or leaving other metallic items (cans, metal spatulas, etc.) on the sinks so that tiny particles are left on the sink's surface which rust. So your rust warning applies also to Franke, Blanco and any other manufacturer who provides care instructions for their sinks to avoid rust. Your recommendation about finding a sink with American steel is problematic. Major manufacturers like Kohler, Blanco, Franke, and even Elkay source their steel from all over the world, including China. It would be difficult for any consumer to know for sure where the stainless steel in their sink came from. Even if you call the manufacturers, they won't have the information on the sources of each run of stainless steel they buy, which went to which factory, which went to which retailer, and which went to which sink an individual is buying. There are many enthusiastic owners of Kraus sinks on this forum. It's a lot of bang for the buck. Franke, Kohler and Elkay offer the thinner 18-gauge SS, and no grid, at the same price point or higher as Kraus' 16-gauge with grid....See Morenancyocean
