Hi there - I have had a SS apron sink in use for five months now. I just went down and had a close look at it. No scratches, no dents. Upon close examination there were a couple of marks, look like water marks that weren't wiped up promptly. Similar marks on the fridge come off easily with SS cleaner. A SS sink could certainly scratch, but honestly only toddlers would notice. Unlike the handle area of the fridge that we see at eye level daily, the sink is only "casually observed" from adult height. I never would have noticed the small water marks if I didn't get down and really examine it. You can't notice unless you're looking for it. So, I probably would do it again, based on five-months experience at any rate.

I do not have one, but I've wanted one! I cannot answer all your questions, but just a couple. I think the choice of double or single bowl depends a lot on the size of the sink. If you are going to go with the 30" size, then single bowl would be better - a double bowl sink in a 30" size may mean that neither bowl is big enough to soak roasting pans, cookie sheets, etc. If you go to a 33" or 36" sink, then the choice is personal preference and your cooking/cleaning style. I myself have a single bowl sink and would never go back to a double, but there are just as many people who would only have a double bowl sink. What have you used and liked or disliked in the past? The advantages of stainless apron front over the traditional fireclay apron front sink are: less expensive, easier to install (fireclay can have uneven dimensions and therefore be harder to scribe the countertops around it), lighter so easier to install, will not chip, and you won't need a drain flange for a disposal (fireclay is thick so in order to install a disposal you would need to buy a longer drain flange). Disadvantages are: the look is not traditional the way fireclay is, and stainless shows water spots and scratches (the scratches develop into a patina over time, so I wouldn't worry about that). Regarding faucets, there are SO many choices. I would make sure that you get a sprayer faucet so that you can easily clean into all the corners. I myself prefer a faucet with an integrated sprayer, rather than a side sprayer. You get better water pressure with an integrated sprayer, and a side sprayer means you have to hold onto the handle for the spray to stay on. Pay attention to the reach of the faucet - that dimension is available on all the brands' websites. You don't want the reach to be too short so that you have to reach far into the sink to grab it. As to brands, I have read on this forum that people really like their Kraus sinks and their Ticor SS stainless sinks; both are heavier 16 gauge. I think Ticor also offers stainless apron front sink with "zero radius" corners, which I would stay away from - those zero radius corners tend to collect gunk. Ticor also offer sinks with "tight radius" corners that will have a very slight curve, which would be easier. A nice kitchen with a SS apron front sink is Hobokenkitchen's. I only want to say you should try to have the apron not very curved - some of the apron sinks have curved fronts that protrude more than others. I am saying this because apron front sinks have the ergonomic advantage of having your body be right up against the sink instead of having to lean slightly over several inches of countertop the way you would with an undermount sink. But by adding a big curve, you are foregoing that advantage. You can find very nice stainless steel apron front sinks for not that much money. Don't be taken in by brand names. Most of the big brands like Franke and Blanco source their stainless steel sinks from China, just like the lower-end names do, so you are pay more for a brand name made of the same material as the non-brand name. Look for 16-gauge stainless, not 18-gauge (16-gauge is thicker). All stainless steel sinks will scratch, regardless of manufacturer. So look for a sink that comes with a grid that will help protect against scratches. We're doing a remodel in my daughter's small kitchen. We are trying to use one of the flat ship/you assemble cabinet companies. (Any recommendations?) I want to use a 24 inch farm sink. I know that it is always recommended to buy a cabinet that is 3 inches wider than the sink. Without having it completely custom built, I haven't been able to find a cabinet line that has a farm sink cabinet that is 27 inches. I have found one that is 30 inches, but it is difficult to find a fireclay sink that is 27 inches. We really can't go any bigger than a 30 inch cabinet. Oddly when you look at many of the pictures of the sinks they clearly are not in cabinets that are 3 inches wider. It looks like they just sit on two short base cabinets with no filler. Is this a thing? What height should these short cabinets be for a 10 inch undermounted sink? Thanks!
