Lisa, here are some specs I collected when I was narrowing down my choice. These are all 5 ft tubs. Archer-- drop in only bottom at narrowest point= 19 11/16 at widest = same basin length = 45 depth, to base of drain= 15 finished floor to top of tub= 19 width- outside = 32 Madison, 34" drop in or undermount 60 gal bottom at narrowest point= 19 at widest = same basin length = 40 depth, to base of drain= 15 3/4 finished floor to top of tub= 22 width- outside = 34 Madison, 32" drop in or undermount 60 gal bottom at narrowest point= 18 at widest = same basin length = 40 depth, to base of drain= 15 3/4 finished floor to top of tub= 22 width- outside = 32 Madison, 30" drop in or undermount 55 gal bottom at narrowest point=16 at widest = same basin length = 40 depth, to base of drain= 15 3/4 finished floor to top of tub= 22 width- outside = 30 (compared to my current tub) bottom at narrowest point= 17, (above the curve is almost 19) at widest = 22 basin length = 50 depth, to base of drain= 16 finished floor to top of tub= 24 width- outside = 35, almost 36

desertsteph - I think I remember that. I guess the thread is long gone. That is a pretty cool idea. pudgybaby - that is going to be beautiful! It looks more like a piece of furniture which is what I am aiming for. What are you going to put in the drawers? willowdecor - your pantry is AMAZING. I love the glass and the cabinets sitting on the countertop. The first time I saw it I thought someone was posting inspiration pics. It took me a minute to figure out that it actually belonged to a real person. LOL! It must be so nice to have your desk area in there as well. Thanks also for the beautiful inspiration pics. I have a 5' wall that runs perpendicular to the planned refrigerator wall. I am using the whole space for my desk but I don't need it all for my laptop. I was trying to figure out how to tie it into the coffee/snack bar cabinets but I couldn't do it. I kind of gave up on that one.

Can you measure the current distance between the edge of the ledge and the stairway? Perhaps Valinsv doesn't have it quite right. Also, I think you need to realize that the concern is not if stools will fit, it is whether they will fit while allowing for adequate room to walk behind them. Why? Because if that aisle is blocked, people will automatically walk through the kitchen proper - past sink and range - through what is already a 1 cook kitchen space. I had this in my former kitchen, and visitors tended to congregate in the most awkward locations, such as right in front of the sink and the range (and that corner between them). This is what tends to happen when builders put in an island because "that is what people want." In a large space, islands are popular because there is plenty of room to move around them and they prevent a sensation of being "trapped" in the kitchen. However, in a smaller space it becomes more important to protect the cooking zone which is not large enough to accommodate multiple people. We switched to a peninsula design. We can now accommodate multiple cooks, and visitors enjoy hanging out on the periphery of the space because there is plenty of room to do so. We understand your desire for a certain look and feel. It is not unusual to place form over function. However, the people here will try to steer you to the most functional space possible within a desired form. I personally think your best options are to reconsider the peninsula or ditch the stools and overhang at the island. If there is no sink or cooktop on the island, people will very likely still congregate around it, just standing. Which is why I still lean toward the peninsula.

This doesn't have everything you want, but it's looking very functional, with loads of work counter and the crowds of friends and family passing through happily out of your way. I LOVE your storage wall. It looks excellent. I also love your husband's response; mine never bothers to consider appearance when it might interfere with his convenience. My first thought on the fridge top was shallower to keep it more visually open up there, but if things tend to get set up on this handy shelf, then I definitely agree with you and Ci Lantro. But in this kitchen with a wall of storage right there, could old habits change? The most likely place that occurs to me for the MW would be tucked into the bottom of the upper cabinet abutting the side of the fridge, not on the counter. Functionally it's handy to the fridge and off to the side of other work, esthetically somewhat tucked away and not interfering with the nice range and sink walls, and with all the other wall storage serving that counter, I'm guessing you could probably spare that space. Less-used stuff would just go over in the storage wall.
