circle cutter problem

Hi just bought a circle cutter ,not sure if I can say the name ,anyhow im having a hard time with it, it just wants to cut half the circle ,does anyone have any hints on how to use them .LoL went through a bunch of paper trying it out .The name of it is really a well known brand

Hi Fran...I never could get the cutters to work right....I have several and probably the one that you have. You hold down on the middle and then cut your circle around it...while holding down firmly...never works. I did succeed, however, in cutting a half circle on my table top one time, though. I haven't found one yet that works well...Deanna

Hi Delta,

If its brand new that may be the problem. It sees like you have to break some of them in like a new pair of shoes

sorry ladies - this was not an advert -- I don't sell the products, just buy them. wanted to share some knowledge on the two systems. I did not realize you did not share knowledge on this site, sharing where I had bought was no different than mentioning Joann's or some other large store. many people in Canada do not know where these machines can be checked out and I appreciated when I read on this site about the above store months ago. That was the way I was introduced.

If you have the one I'm thinking of (clear plastic, long handle you hold and another spins to make the circle), I do like that one, my mom has it and it works pretty smoothly. I have found that most cutters work better on glass (I have a glass cutting board) I don't have a circle cutter--want to get one!--but do have the Fiskars oval and don't really like it. I also have a doodle cutter...works good with strong templates and on a glass cutting board. It takes alot of practice, but works better than scissors; especially for making fun shapes and it's very compact! I think as part of Natl Scrapbook Day, I may end up getting the CM cutting system (circles/ovals) I used it at a party once and my pics looked so much nicer than when using scissors. OH MY!!!! HOW COOL!!! I have high speed internet and it was instant and very neat to watch!! My local stained glass gals are totally old school too! They told me to buy a kiln instead of a saw!!! I made my board like that, hmmm where is it?! He makes it look so easy!lol! I just seem to move the glass some how! If I'm using a ruler, I move the ruler some how!! Even if it is a T ruler!!!! I'm so hopeless! I just can't seem to wanna spend time practicing! WOW! Your teacher sounds really nice, and thorough! To teach you with clear glass and taking all these weeks! I went to a 4 wknd course and barely learned the fundimentals!!! So what is your copperfoil project looking like? I love the copper foil method, haven't done the leaded glass as of yet, 7rs!lol! Bought all the stuff and haven't gotten there yet! If you are like me, before long you will have 1/2doz window projects in mind, a bunch of lampshades ya wanna do...the list is endless!!ha! Just don't loose momentum on a project!!! My peacock panel is STILL not done and it's been like, 5yrs!!! Oh my! That's insane when I type it out loud!!! I JUST got the beetle bits & flying beetle for my Birthday. Set it up and used it for the first time yesterday & I LOVE it. Now I can't compare it to the morton system since I've never tried it, but I've read comments here that it can be hard to figure out. I can tell you that I had the beetle system set up in 5 minutes & it's super easy to use. I haven't tried to cut anything fancy like diamonds or triangles so I can't report on that yet. But it seems like it will be easier to do angles since it has the built in protractor, no marking numbers on the grid.

You need 3 hands! Just kidding, I have one and I love it. You really have to firmly hold the center "button" and I usually go around the circle two times.
Also the blade has to be sharp.

I am willing to bet my eye teeth that it's a fiskers circle cutter! Blue and Orange? They have stopped making them to the best of my knowledge due to how hard they are to use. I have often heard that if you use it on a GLASS mat it works much better. That is why fiskers came out with their new cutting system. Love Penny

Hmmmm! I have never had a problem with mine, though I know you do need to hold it down hard and turn all the way around, and like someone mentioned, the blade has to be sharp. Good luck!

thanks for the input on my circle cutter,I guess I will have to practice a bit more ,someone said it had to be a sharp blade ,well as it was brand new I took it that the blade they had put in it would be sharp .

I returned mine and now have just purchased. the CM system and it is so much better it seems to me. Easy to use.
