Where to get Patio Furniture or Update Old Set?

I realize it is late now, but where do you go to get patio furniture? I have looked and looked. We bought a table and chairs (teak) and the table split within a week. By the time the replacement was to be delivered, there was a split all the way across the back of one chair. We sent the whole thing back and I know I'm too late to find anything now.

I have a sling back set I like, and fortunately we did not get rid of it. The fabric on all but one chaise has split and the chairs may not be far behind. The reason we have a large set is that the first set was delivered with a faulty finish and they didn't want it back. We gave away the table (glass top -- I like the smooth surface) but kept most of the chairs and a pair of chaises. That means it is a lot to redo.

I looked into powder coating and new slings. That would cost more than all but the more expensive new sets. Given the trouble we had finding something we all liked and that fit our needs, I'm thinking that I may just take them apart when the weather is cooler, coat them with Rustoleum and tackle sewing the slings myself. MAYBE it will get done by spring. LOL

In our younger years, we had a plastic table and chairs from Target, In a sense, they were easier. I'd like teak, but want chairs that are comfortable without cushions for everyday use in the subtropics and because my tall sons find the back hits them too low when the seat is raised by cushions. I didn't find much we could look at and sit in and based on what I did, I'm afraid to order inline. Most of the chairs were not that comfortable even with cushions. If the slings and spray paint don't work, I don't even know where else to look.

I got my new set at Costco, but I didn't see any teak. Did you try Walpole?

Check Craigs List -- it is AMAZING what kinds, shapes and types of patio furniture can be found!

Also -- check out Ikea -- and Tuesday Morning -- many stores have their patio items on sale right now ....

Check your local Yellow Pages for repair options ....

I agree with garrai81! If you don't mind using second hand, go for craigslist! We bought this one for $350, about 1/2 price. This set is originally bought from HomeDepot a year ago. Previous owner moved in new house with smaller deck. So they wanted to sell it. I gets compliment about this patio set all the time. You can leave them outside all year around. It looks great, and very light weight, so easy to move. Came with beige cushions as well. You just need some patience with craigslist tho. If you can keep looking for a month or two, you will definitely find a good deal!

I would love to have vintage black wrought iron, but had looked for a year or so, and never found a single piece. In the meantime, we needed something to sit on! I bought 4 chairs, a bench, and 2 side tables from Lowes for less than $700. We've only had them a few months, but we love the set! They're cast aluminum, very comfortable, and sturdy. My criteria was similar to yours, but since some of the pieces would be totally exposed to the elements, I didn't want any steel construction at all. I also wanted them to comfortable without any cushions, since I knew it would be futile to put them on the pieces that sit in the sun and rain. I'd like to get at least some pillows for the pieces on the covered porch, but it's more for color than comfort.

Love the new set, and I think it has great lines. Not sure about the two fabrics, tho it is likely just the monitor, but the couch fabric seems much yellower in tone than the beige in the stripe that you like. If it is just a picture issue, and they are similar, I would say do the couch and the chaise in the solid, chairs in the stripe. Can you get stripe pillows to use on the couch and chaise for accent? Or, is there a third fabric that you could use for the chaise that works with the solid and stripe? I think the Lowe's set looks nice, but be sure it is comfortable enough and well- made enough to stand up to all the use it will get. I do like the idea of having the two different looks, as I said. Does LF have another dining set that you might like? Since, as you say, this furniture will get a lot of use year 'round, it is perhaps worth investing in the best you can afford. There is a matching dining set for the Oxford (choice 3) if you look on the LF website. But what about the Buckingham as another choice for the dining set only?

I have the same situation as you. We converted an old small carport to a decent patio (doesn't that sound fancier, LOL) by extending the length and width, laying mortared patio brick in place. This resulted in half the patio/porch being under roof and the entended part being open. This gives me a sheltered, shady seating area and an open, sunny area. I have a faux vinyl wicker set with very nice cushions (loveseat, two chairs, a cocktail table, and an end table) under roof. I also have/had a cheaper, glass-top table with vinyl slinged chairs that came with cushions. The cushions were always wet/damp in the morning or after a rain, so we just used the chairs with the vinyl strips. They were very closely woven and were extremely comfortable without the cushions. We had a severe hail storm last spring and destroyed my chairs so I am also on the quest for a new user friendly set for that area. I DO NOT WANT CUSHIONS, so will probably go with the sling-back style that is some type of woven mesh material. These are more commonly seen in the discount stores - Walmart on-line has a nice selection - and usually have the glass or tile top. I do not want to sit on wet cushions or have to dry a seat when I step outside to have my coffee in the morning. I will also say, I love how easy my faux wicker set from Target is to maintain. They stay outside, minus the cushions, year around, and even though they are under roof, they still get exposed to wind, rain, blowing snow, etc. I just give them a good water hose and soft brush scrubbing in the spring.

I 2nd Craigslist.

After buying our furniture for our deck (sofa, 2 chairs) I was lucky enough to find someone selling a dining table, 6 chairs and 2 chaises that were from the same collection for a fraction of the cost. It was in excellent condition, the seller was moving to a townhouse and didn't have the outdoor room.

I love the look of teak or ipe, however, there is maintenance and I'm just not needing that. Ours is cast aluminum that is powder coated from Hanamint.

If you can get by with your old set, there will be sales at the end of the season (which is probably now since the stores need to get ready for Christmas ;-)) Get to the garden store, see what you like, check prices, then start looking and searching CL for what you want. Even eBay has great deals.

Yes, please look into cast aluminum on Craigslist, tag sales, or perhaps at the summer clearance sales.

Pier One sells cushions in all kinds of colors and patterns, and they are wonderfully comfy (good price when on sale too).

We got our set at Fortunoff's Backyard Store last year during one of their sales. We were so impressed with the experience shopping at our local store (store mgr was VERY helpful), the quality of the furniture, and the sale pricing, that we told good friends, who also ended up purchasing a set there as well.

Ours is cast aluminum. We purchased a patio set cover from them, too, and it protected the set beautifully over the winter. (FYI, unwrap your set as soon as you start to see bees/wasps flying around outside, they can build nests in the fabric folds quite quickly!)

I have started looking again and it seems everything is pretty limited at this point and not what we are looking for. I think it will have to be next year.

I have never found Craigslist to be of interest here. I am amazed by what people find in other areas though. I can look some more....I think I am going to need to take on the project and keep looking. It may take a while to find something. I guess we're picky about patio furniture....and I want to sit in the chairs before I buy it.

Did you check the stores' websites? Home Depot has a sale now with free shipping over $399.

Did check a number -- not HD. I didn't see anything I loved in the store. Perhaps they have more online.

Hey perhaps I could help you, my relative bought their amazing set in this site www.porchswingsplus.com. Not sure if that's a big store or not but I think it's a retail store. Thing is, I love the set that they bought there, not only it's very comfortable but very long lasting as well, as the set they have bought are going 2 years now and still very strong.

I hope you can get what you want in there or maybe in the other stores:)

I was given a set of Brown Jordan from the early 1970's, a table, 4 chairs, a chaise lounge and a rocking chair. The chaise and rocking chair soon wore out and started coming loose and sagging, so had these two pieces powder coated and redone; it wasn't cheap, but figure if they will last another 40 years it will be worth it! I notice ebay among others have these older Brown Jordan at decent prices. I googled vintage Brown Jordan.

Outdoor furniture sales should start in a month or so, maybe even now. And yes, HD does have a larger selection online than in stores. If you get something without cushions, you want to make sure the chair/sofa is comfy before buying.

Living in Florida, I can state that the tropics are very hard on outdoor furniture. It it's not under a covered area, it will not last long. I could never understand why all the people here purchased plastic outdoor furniture until I started to have to throw away my own after 2 years in service.

The woven wicker resin furniture pieces only had 2 years before all the 'wicker' started to crack and unravel. The steel with a powder coat still rusts. Not even cast aluminum is immune from corrosion. My HOA purchased new aluminum furniture with slings, and after one year the slings are sagging from use.

You might want to take your cue from the cruise industry. The boats most often have the furniture with the straps. They're not too expensive, relatively comfortable and can be restrapped if necessary.

All the sales on outdoor furniture started in time for the 4th of July, so you're late in looking, but Home Depot and Lowes both have much of their furniture on sale, and certain stores have additional discounts on pieces that haven't moved in their store, but it means going from store to store to check.

Also, don't discount going to thrift and 2nd hand stores. I've found pairs of chaise lounges in good condition for $40 each at times. Good Luck.

Not sure where you live, but we found our furniture on sale at a furniture store - Grand Piano, last season. Check your local furniture stores.
