I have a question about foam core board....
Comments (3)Hmm... I think I'd have to use a lot of double-side tape, but the spray might work. I nearly dropped my teeth when I saw the price of spray glue! $8! I bought the smallest can I could find. Thanks!...See MorePlease help with paint process for oak veneer hollow core doors...
Comments (15)Since you have so many doors why not experiment to see if the grain is acceptable. Remember it shows up when light hits at an angle so if you don't see much in the way of bright spots now you won't see much when painted. Lower gloss shows fewer bright spots too. I repainted the kitchen with satin and I think the oak grain is somewhat less noticeable now. I like the grain though. It gives the eye something to see rather than scan to find imperfections on that enormous plain surface. It was enormously restful painting out my luan doors. I didn't realize how depressing or dominating the dark slabs were in my little house. If you use a palm sander it's hard to sand through. It's when I am hand sanding I put pressure on spots I think need more and then get into trouble. Hope your doors are better quality than my luan doors, the skins are thin and flexible and if I really went to town I could outline the frame under the skin....See MoreShaker style hollow core doors
Comments (8)Well, Masonite does indeed have shaker hollow core doors but only 6'8" so that doesn't help us. I understand the savings are 'minimal' in the grand scheme of things, but I'm anal about my budget and so far we are right on our budget at about 60% complete. A $600 savings in doors will get me $600 somewhere else. I'm holding onto my contingency for dear life and refuse to use it unless absolutely necessary. It's become a game to me to see where I can save so I use that savings somewhere else. :) Well....sounds like no savings will be had by closet doors. I'll place my interior door order today for all solid. Thanks everyone for the possible leads. I appreciate it!...See MoreDo you think painting hollow-core doors to look like wood is tacky?
Comments (3)Try one and see. You can always repaint it white, if you dont like it. Most hollow cores are wood. Someone may have painted them. You might even try to strip one, and see what you have under that paint....See Morehomebound
