Anyone have a Xyron

Just ordered a Xyron from QVC and was wondering if anyone had one and how they liked it!! It really looks neat and will be great for scrapbooking!!!!

So, without appearing really stupid, what exactly IS a Xyron? I have heard their praises for months but never exactly seen one. I scrap alot but usually do it at home and haven't done alot of classes to have seen one in action. I would love yo know more - just in case I need one and didn't realize it! Thanks.

Xyron is a portable machine that has interchanging cartridges. It allows you to laminate, apply a magnet backing or apply an adhesive backing. I love my machine eventhough I haven't used it in my scrapbook yet!! I have been laminating and making magnets for everyone. It is great!! I think you will be happy with it.

I absolutely love my Xyrons...I have the 150,250,510,and the 900 and adore them all!! I use the 250 and 510 the most and almost daily for so many different projects. I don't think you will ever regret getting either version. The Xyron would be a lot more affective and less messy than any sort of glue on spray. They are not only sticker makers but certain version can also laminate with no electricity. You also use a line glue instead of the spray on such as hermafix, even Duck brand has a line glue that is awesome and really inexpensive. With the scrapbooking industry there are so many selections of glue available it's mind blowing. I wish you much success and look forward to seeing your finished projects. ginger

My husband gave me my Xyron 850 for Christmas. I love it! At the time they were having a special... when purchasing the 850, you got the 500 sticker maker, free. (We gave the 500 to our daughter who is also into scrapbooking.) Otherwise I would have gone with the 1200, I think. I am a teacher and have used it for making books and materials for class. I don't know if it's the teacher in me and years of experience with using every inch of laminating, but I don't have much waste at all. Since it has a hand crank, you have great control over the speed in which materials go through the machine. You can place items close together to prevent the waste you were referring to. If you want tiny punches as stickers or laminated, put a whole sheet of paper through the machine and then punch your punches. My husband was also hesitant when I showed him the machine for the first time but now he sees how many uses I have for it and is glad he made the purchase.

If you go to this site it has scrapbook product reviews on it. Go to Misc. and at the bottom of the screen is reviews about the Xyron machine. I belong to a mail list that has much about Xyron machines and they were saying that this spring they are coming out with small machines to do stickers and die cuts for scraping. This way you don't have the expense of the bigger machine and the waste if you only need a couple of things done. I think they said the machines would sell for under $50.00. I have the 1200 and LOVE IT! I don't usually have a lot of waste. Because I can feed at my pace I feed one page then another etc with very little space between. If I'm doing 8 1/2 x 11 then feed with the 11" side first. If you want to punch small items, feed a whole piece of paper and then punch. PB Plastics had the 1200 for aprox. $130 and the 500 came free. I don't know if they still have that offer. Good luck on your decision. Hilary

Jamie, I bought one when they were on last month and I love it. You can work so much faster. I don't want to do anything else but my scrapbooks! I didn't really know whether I liked it at first but after using it a couple of times, I love it. I think it was a good investment. Hope you like it as well.

go to website www.pbplastics.com......they sell xyrons and have GREAT service too! (they also sell all xyron supplies!) check it out! I order from them all my xyron supplies. Just ordered from them during a great sale!

I just bought the small xyron (I think it's model 500) from Michaels. It was 39.99 but then I used a 40% off coupon. I've used it a few times and love it. I've had model 1200 on my birthday list for 6 months but having a hard time convincing my husband that's what he wants to give me.

i was at michael's the other night...didn't see the small one, but saw the big one for $99...oh, what a cute "toy" for me...I don't do much scrapbooking, but seems like the laminator could be really handy....and for $40-40%...I wouldn't feel so bad spending that!

OOOOh, my husband WAS listening. He gave me the xyron 1200 for my birthday. It came with the laminating cartridge in it which I'm having fun with but what I really need is the acid free adhesive cartridge. Where does everyone get their supplies? My local Michaels only stocks model 850 supplies.

Happy Birthday Hilary! Check out www.pbplastics.com posted earlier by Teresa. This is where we purchased our Xyron and supplies from. They were great to work with. Prices were very reasonable too.

Does anyone have some tips on how to keep first page from wrinkling after changing cartridges? Been using the magnetic and laminating cartridges.

Hi all,
I am interested in buying a Xyron but am realizing there are several different models. What are the pros and cons to them? I have seen the 500 and the 850 at Michaels but have never heard of the 1200. What does the 1200 do that the others don't? Thanks for all your advice! Cindy.

The 1200 can take paper widths up to 12". If you don't generally use anything but 8 1/2 x 11 paper then you wouldn't need the 1200. I scrapbook with 12x12 so was very happy when my DH gave me the 1200. I've also used it for my son's science project presentation and the cub scout project. It has been well used over the last month already. The only thing (at least for me) is I have to order supplies because no one carries supplies for the 1200 locally. Have fun. Hilary
