Do you have this problem w/ your xyron?

Hi,

I have the smaller sticker xyron that I really love. The 500. My problem is when I run something through the machine a small film of glue spreads on top too. Just on the side that goes in first and it is only a small amount but It is enough to get something stuck to it or for it to look dirty. I use a gum eraser to get it off but it is a pain.

Do you have this problem? What would you suggest?

Hi Sandy,

I don't have a xyron, but use large laminators at work and if left on too long they get a yucky oily "ooze" that gets on the items being laminated. I run a piece of scrap paper thru first to soak up the ooze.

If the glue is only on the first item you run thru then a small strip of paper run thru first should take care of it.
If it is on every item, maybe it is set too hot?? (Do xyron use heat?)

Thanks for your help Jill but no the xyron does not use heat and it happens to each item I put through. It is just on the one side though. I guess I will keep using the eraser. It is a pain but it is better that having the glue there.

I absolutely love my Xyrons...I have the 150,250,510,and the 900 and adore them all!! I use the 250 and 510 the most and almost daily for so many different projects. I don't think you will ever regret getting either version. The Xyron would be a lot more affective and less messy than any sort of glue on spray. They are not only sticker makers but certain version can also laminate with no electricity. You also use a line glue instead of the spray on such as hermafix, even Duck brand has a line glue that is awesome and really inexpensive. With the scrapbooking industry there are so many selections of glue available it's mind blowing. I wish you much success and look forward to seeing your finished projects. ginger

You're over-analyzing here. Rather than lower your upper cabinets, why not make them deeper? You'll get more storage, and they'll be easier to reach. I have 30" deep lower cabinets at 37" high in my kitchen with 15" deep cupboards above. Only the highest shelves are a stretch. In my laundry room, the lower cabinets are 32" deep with 15" deep uppers. Still not a problem reaching frequently used items on the lower shelves. Stuff used infrequently is stored on upper shelves. An added bonus with deeper uppers in the laundry room is that things like supplies of paper towel rolls can be stored on their sides, making it easy to survey stocks at a glance. If you hang your upper cupboards too low, they'll get in the way when you're folding laundry.

I replaced my old Neptune FL with a new set of Samsung's this week. My old Neptune set on the floor for almost 10 years. I love the pedestals. I debated between just making a stand or buying the actual pedestals. I was concerned I wouldn't like the height and then would be tearing out the built in. I don't have a problem with the detergent height and I'm 5'3". The only thing I've noticed is the pump is a little noisier with it being on a metal pedestal opposed to the floor. The noise is obviously carrying through the metal box. I'm comparing it to my old Maytag FL. However, the new Samsung doesn't make the "airplane noise" that the old Maytag did. Even when the Maytag was new it was a different sound than the new Samsung is making. Also, since they are so light weight, I would also be concerned with certain brands walking the floor. As far as folding, I always take it upstairs and fold or hang. The only thing I fold, in the laundry room, are the towels. Today I just stacked them on top of the units. No problem. We always come through the garage, so you can see the laundry room. So all dirty clothes are behind cabinets or in the chute. All the clean clothes are taken upstairs and either folded or hung up. Making a platform would not be difficult, especially if you don't put drawers in the front.

Gardenweb occasionally has trouble with logins, and is aware that this occurs. I have had it occur sporadically over the last couple of years. At one point, about 2 years ago, I might have to log in half a dozen times before it would take. The only thing that seemed to help was to login only from the GardenWeb home page rather than while I was in a specific forum. I have not had login problems for a while now, but I know others occasionally do. I don't think there is much you can do, other than to try logging in from the home page.

how about talcum powder on that edge. it will keep the glue from sticking to just where you put the powder.

I think I would contact the manufacturer of the equipment and ask them about it. Also, ask the store manager of the place where you purchased it if they had other complaints?
I know this is being posted very late in the day but I just found this forum....LOL Hopefully you have solved your problem by now.

I've heard this particular model is troublesome. It apparently gets gunked up repeatedly and causes problems. Someone mentioned the newer model, like 510? works better. I don't have one but have wanted to try one. I think I read the review on Joann Fabric's website - if you look up the product it will show user comments.

I recently bought a 500 model. I have only used it once to test it out, but it worked fine. Maybe the cartridge was bad and thus the reason for the glue residue? I hope it isn't a problem with model. I purchased mine at JoAnn's for $39.00 on clearance. It also came with 2 adhesives - one permanent and one removeable, a cutter and a glue eraser. I priced them out at other stores and on the web and this was a great deal with all the extras. I checked and they didn't seem to be discontinuing this model, just this specially packaged one. I will be taking it on my crop weekend in April, so if I have any problems, I will be sure and post.

I just bought the small one today, and noticed that even it has a warranty of one year. I saw it on the little insert that comes with the product (not sure if they all do) but it said that if something is defective they will replace it. I thought that was pretty impressive considering I only paid $10 (then half off) for it.

I only have the little one....the 150 and haven't had problems with it.
