I have a cold & hot Duck brand Electric Laminating machine and I just love it! I even bought my Mother one & she went crazy over it. I got them at Wal-Mart a few years ago for $25 and some laminating sheets, also by Duck. It is very easy to use & they hold up for a VERY long time!!! It is big enough to laminate a whole sheet of paper, 8 1/2" x 11". We have even laminated important papers. We use the HOT laminating sheets for the best results!!! When we were kids my Mother used to press our projects between 2 pieces of clear contact paper, so she knew exactly what to do with this neat little machine!! We have even laminated pre-pressed 4 leaf clovers & flowers in it before! I use the 4" Zyron adhesive rolls but never bought the machine because I couldn't afford it. It works fine for me without the machine! I have never tried their laminating rolls but their machine doesn't use heat! I sure hope you can find a Duck machine!!! Good luck! My husband gave me my Xyron 850 for Christmas. I love it! At the time they were having a special... when purchasing the 850, you got the 500 sticker maker, free. (We gave the 500 to our daughter who is also into scrapbooking.) Otherwise I would have gone with the 1200, I think. I am a teacher and have used it for making books and materials for class. I don't know if it's the teacher in me and years of experience with using every inch of laminating, but I don't have much waste at all. Since it has a hand crank, you have great control over the speed in which materials go through the machine. You can place items close together to prevent the waste you were referring to. If you want tiny punches as stickers or laminated, put a whole sheet of paper through the machine and then punch your punches. My husband was also hesitant when I showed him the machine for the first time but now he sees how many uses I have for it and is glad he made the purchase.

I think the first thing I would do is a page of every color of card stock I had, so that when I needed a piece it would already be done and ready, then I would go to a good clip art site and print off a bunch of my favorites that match photos I am working on and do those, then I would do some lettering fonts, then some fancy frames, can you tell I have been dreaming of one of these machines? Wow! I think that Penny has some great ideas. That sounds like a great toy...ahem, a fine piece of equipment that would be essential in preserving your family's heritage. (thanks for the site!)
