Got the new machine ! :) ! :)

After taking a look at the machines, I decided because of the price tag on the better machine that I wanted, I would wait until this fall and fit it into the budget. When my dear sweet hubby went to town this week he came home with a surprise for me. Not my repaired machine, but a brand new Scandinavia 200 (Viking). It's well worth the extra money spent!

Our daughter will enjoy my repaired older basic model.

Thanks for everyone's advice. Got to go sew now :)

Congratulations,i'm sure you're gonna love your new machine.Is it one of those that does embroidery??If so make sure you take all the lessons offered.

It doesn't do the free style embroidery, but it has 11 decorative stitches which I've already been using. Lots of fun trying to be creative. Plus extra utility stitches beyond basic straight and zig zag that look like they'll come in handy.

The store where I bought my machine has a Viking club with a monthly meeting and project sewn on the vikings that I'll probably attend when I can fit it in my schedule. They have been very helpful with quick questions and a mini-lesson to get me started. It's always fun to just jump in and start experiementing. But Yes, I did read the manual -- this time :)

I "googled" your model number and found several forums where they discussed what a poorly written manual you have. You might search for a Yahoo group that discusses various sewing machine or the Kenmore machines. Or just 'play' with it. Get a piece of medium wt white fabric, put colored thread in and start trying out various stitches. My Viking machine has a picture of the various stitches printed on the actual top of the machine along with a 'number' which is what one enters on the keypad. One of the posters talking about your machine seemed to indicate the machine would make monograms but that was an additional software that would need to be purchased.

First off, isn't it wonderful to love your new machine? I'm happy for you, you did the research and found your diamond (doing the homework pays off!) Is quilting addictive -- for a sewer (for me)...YES!! Do go over to the quilting forum and just read and look at all the wonderful things those ladies have done. It will inspire you. They are also there to help with any and all questions or problems you might have. Try something simple like a straight nine patch to begin and just see if you enjoy the challenge. Take a few magazines or books out of the library. Start small......do not think, OK I'll make a queen size spread with matching shams - think throw pillow, or tote bag. See if the challenge is for you. Above all good luck, enjoy yourself and I hope your romance continues.

Hi Kathi, Thanks, I've already been having a little fun with it. I make and sell purses and trash bags for trucks but have lots of things to catch up on.I made a quilt a year or so ago for the master bdrm and wuold like to make pillow shams to go with it and maybe valances to match. Be careful what you ask for , you may not want a table like mine, my dh is a welder not a carpenter LOL!!!Not a welder by trade but he really does great work. It'll turn out nice. Thanks Again! Mare

Mamakane,--- What i do when i get a new machine,is to take a piece of light colored cotton,thread the machine with a darker colored thread,(ie white cotton,blue or red thread).Then i go thru and sew every stitch that is on the machine,and mark them accordingly.I file this with my manual,so that in the future if i want to use one of those decorative stitches,i just pull out my sample and decide which one i want to use.This is just an idea for you,but i find it a great help in making decisions on which stitch to use.I also make sure i have on that sample stitches done with a twin needle and the wing needle as well.Hope this helps you.Have fun experimenting.
