I wonder if it really works as well as it should (for that price.) My husband is considering getting a really inexpensive, dinged up hood for now, then getting this Murano hood later. He really likes it too!

See, our ceiling are only 8 ft. The way our kitchen is, we had to do the cooktop on the island. I am worried about this big old "thing" hanging down from the ceiling. I would love to do a downdraft vent that is hidden in the island, but I keep hearing those don't really work. If I had a window in the kitchen, I might get the downdraft, but since I do not, I need something "real."

I also like that it is a light, also.

Just wonder if it is hard to clean?

FWIW, when I worked with Henrybuilt head designer, she recommened the brand as THE CHOICE regarding the quiet, effectiveness and stylishnes. I ended up not going with the brand and that is probably one thing I regret.... (not taking her advice because of other issues)

Yes, those are some beautiful hoods.
I myself was considering one of the Murano models, but I ended up with the Luxor hood instead, there was some issue with the hood size I needed vs what they had. When I talked to Futuro reps about the glass, they told me its smooth and easy to clean, just wipe it down with Windex or some other glass cleaner.
Overall, I'm satisfied with the looks and the performance. I can see why kaismom's designer would recommend this brand.

Oh nooo, now I am going to have to start saving my pennies and wishing and praying!

ellencrowe...I think I only saw 34"hoods of the Murano? I have an 8 ft ceiling and was considering a 36" gas cooktop. I haven't gotten to the point of looking up what is the proper hood/cooktop ratio...but would that work?

(a tiny part of me is hoping the answer is NO...so I will just try to forget this hood once and for all! LOL)

Have you posted that over in Appliances? You'll get good feedback there on how it might function. That is one interesting hood.

The general recommendation for hood width is to have your hood 3" wider (6" total) on each side than your cooktop. This rule really holds true for an island hood where a hood has a harder time capturing effluent without the back up against a wall.

And from what I remember, Futuro isn't a favored brand in Appliances. I think posters over there consider many Futuros to be more designed for looks than good function. To my only kinda trained eye, I don't think it has good capture as it looks like the actual working part is the rectangular area visible underneath. I think you might have to go much, much wider than your cooktop for it to work well. I'm no expert though despite studying hoods for about a year, and I'm very tired. Post in Appliances.

I went on to their website, and they also have a Ceiling Mount exhaust hood for islands--Flush with ceiling. I could not find specs about mounting height except for minimums for all their hoods. I am assuming the capture height is up to 60" above the cooktop if it is indeed meant for the ceiling.

It is large (54" x 26") and uses Two 6" ducts and moves 1800 CFM, probably to compensate for the distance from the cooktop.

I purchased a Futuro hood (a wooden style called Mimosa) directly from their site for my 2008 kitchen remodel.

Their installation instructions are not the clearest and it took us a while to realize we were missing a crucial hanging part. We made do with a stopgap although I assume they would have sent us a replacement.

Unfortunately it conked out after a little over a year (right out of warranty it began making loud thumping noises and we couldn't diagnose the problem) and I was unable to get their customer service to return my emails or calls for service recommendations in my area.

Regrettably, I changed it out for something else and would not purchase that brand again.

That all said, Futuro's designs are very nifty. The replacement I got has steel baffles rather than the silver mesh of the Futuro, and I will say I much prefer the steel baffles, if that is available in Futuro models or any other brand you choose. Throw 'em in the dishwasher and done!
