What are you doing for Thanksgiving?

I will cook for family at someone elses house. His family and mine will be there. I will take pumpkin pie, deviled eggs, and something else, I am sure. He is supplying the turkey and roasting it. I will make the bread stuffing on the side, as well as the gravy. He makes better mashed potatoes than I do, adds garlic - yum!

What will YOU be doing? Please don't spend it alone. If you have no one to share it with, please consider volunteering at a nursing home (helping feed residents) or a homeless shelter.

On Thanksgiving itself, I'm going to BF's family's house. Monday, my agency is providing 200-300 Thanksgiving meals for our clients (many of them homeless). It will be a very busy day.

Going to my parents house for a family dinner in the afternoon. I expect friends from the city to visit later in the evening and they may stay for a couple days. Thursday and Friday are holidays at work so there won't be any of that. I've been sick and will still be on medication so no drinking this year. Work gave me a turkey so the cats and I will have a small thanksgiving feast at home just for us.... Tuna loves turkey and all that kind of stuff.

For now I'm cleaning my house from end to end. Even washed my cats tonight...LOL. They are in less then a holiday mood at the moment. They look so pretty and fuzzy after a nice bath!

Eam, beachem, cpartist, and all who gave recipes for purée ing turkey, thank you! I didn't see them till now, but I know the caregiver made purée with the leftovers. Mom's sister popped in on the way to her son's, just as we eer sitting down, so she helped Mom while DH and I oversaw things (and ate!). The carrots, Cook's Magazines boiled carrot recipe (I know, I know, who needs a recipe for boiled carrots? I do.) came out soft enough that she could manage them just fine, yet just firm enough for everyone else. I passed on the sweet potatoes, it was one too many things. I used Mom's wedding china, her gorgeous silver, and the damask napkins. She didn't recognize any of it, but it color-matched the family room where we ate better than their dining room :) Dad was in tears at the table, it was his first time home since August. The house is his baby, he designed it with an architect, his own company built it, on family land. Probably our last Thanksgiving in that house. Time for new traditions.

I'm keeping Thanksgiving low key this year. Thursday meal will be just me, DH and our daughter. They have simple tastes so no need to go overboard. Frozen turkey has almost defrosted after being in frig four days, so that's good to roast tomorrow. Bought a bag of cranberries today. We will have turkey, gravy, cornbread, baked potatoes, broccoli (plain steamed), and cranberry sauce. Daughter might make us a pecan pie when she arrives tomorrow. We're already planning a turkey soup & sandwich leftover meal with the rest of my family here in town, and then with DH's family a few hours south. Today I bought a frozen turkey breast to ensure we have enough leftovers to share :-)

We're all gathering at DD's house. She is on call that day (she works for a victims assistance organization) so she asked if I could do the cooking. DS, the chef, will be there too, so he and I will double team on the cooking. DD2 and her DH will bring appetizers & desserts, DD1 is contributing the mashed potatoes (probably having her brother prepare them!) and cranberries. Her DH will act as barkeep-with both a selection of good microbrews and IPA's as well as non-alcoholic beverages for DD-who is almost 6 months pregnant. DGS will be a hoot, he's 22 months old now and quite the charmer. It will just be our immediate group-we invited my mother & her husband but they're going to some friends out of town. Also had invited my niece and her boyfriend who recently moved to our state, but they're going to his sister who lives in Washington state. They'll join us for Christmas, however. I'm looking forward to this day, it's always great to be with my kids. My 2 Sons-in-law are best friends and everyone gets along fabulously so it'll be an afternoon of fun, most likely football on the TV, and once the little guy goes down for the night, we'll break out Cards Against Humanity or some such game and things will get even more fun. I'm just glad I've got the following day off-I plan to sleep in and relax!

Since my kids were little I have decorated each month. Most of my decorations date from before they were born. It's part of their 'catching' that the seasons change and each month has something special about it. Back in the day we made decorated sugar cookies for Thanksgiving because it's a season there was time. Pumpkins, pilgrims and turkeys were painted or frosted as fancy as most do Christmas cookies. Halloween is packed away and now we are on to Thanksgiving. Fall colors are my favorite. Here are a few pics from fall. We decorate for Christmas when the weather is best...so often the outside is Christmas and the inside is Thanksgiving when my people come home. If not then it's what we do Friday after Thanksgiving, as well at take pack away all of Thanksgiving. I then spend all of Saturday dawning Christmas. It's about a 14 hour nonstop day but that way I don't have boxes and mess underfoot. It was particularly necessary when the kids were little. Later it was about having it done before I went back to work. December is packed so the decorating needs to be out of the way ASAP. This year we head to my daughters and are all bringing one of our many traditional foods to share. We will put her decorations up, bake cookies and attend a Christmas concert while we are there as well as take in a parade and the lighting of their city Christmas tree.

Not sure yet, the ex hasn't said if he wants the kids on Thanksgiving or not. He always waits till the last minute...so either I'm making dinner that day or a day or two before. I got asked to dinner with a friend and her family but don't feel comfortable going since she and her husband are the only ones I really know.

My DS is cooking and my DD and DSIL are coming from L.A.
I have out of state company that may or may not join us.
I won't be cooking but will bring my Mom's orange goop dessert.

Friday and all next week off. WoooooHooooo!

Well...BF's brother, the one whose house we were supposed to be going to for Thanksgiving, just caught his wife cheating on him. Their marriage is done. Thanksgiving's cancelled too...

On a bright note, my agency's Thanksgiving feast was a huge success!
