Anyone interested in a Genealogy Forum?

I didn't know where to post this, but my thought is that people who like to keep scrapbooks might also be interested in family history.

Does anyone know how to or who to approach to suggest a new forum?

Pam,
I cannot help with setting up a genealogy forum, but I WOULD be interested in seeing it! I have been working on my family's history and have compiled a rather large file so far. It is fun and a treasure to pass down to my children and grandchildren! Go for it!!

Im new to this site but over 20 years growing from seeds collected from Southern magnolia old growth tree. i grow them in pots and have to repot from year to to year. mine usually flower in their 3rd year and after that i find new permanent homes because they are root bound . i have about 14 big 4 to 5 foot trees and about 16 2 year olds that go into big pots about 15 1 year olds and about 20 new trees from planting from new babies from this year. my hobbie is a 365 day job but evryone is good at something mine is Magnoias . After years of growing my trees keeping the watered and fertilized which i watch closely . After years of growing my seeds come from two places but i wonder why leaf shape and color are all differnt. last year as i always research new ideas i found out i was fertilizing wrong . Trees need a higher rate phosphorous for flowering plants such as 10/20/10 and soe chicken manurer which is high in phosphorus when i did that last year all the trees turned dark immediately and the flowers heartier with more blooms and keep flowering more throughout summer . Not as many as the first of june but when they did put on blooms randomly the flowers were hardier and unlike before they would try to bloom as in hot august they would burn up as they would try to do they would go full full bloom in the heat . it jus goes to show you can learn something new. it was probably my most aha moment in my magnolia growing history . i live in Tulsa Ok and get my seeds from local trees which i think is a big factor of my success. but dont know for sure. Just trying to share my experience i give all my trees away locally at no cost but try to find good forever homes for them.

im sorry, i dont have the details anymore, they are lost in history that is my mind. but the most interesting story that i remember is this white moth orchid of maybe australian decent. this had a spur of 12+ inches yet no insect was found to have that long of a tounge. Darwin said, keep looking!! years after his death, sure enough. a (night?) moth with a 14" inch tounge was found. reinforces the evolutionary theory of 1 - 1 evolution quite well. Olbrich botanical gardens in Madison WI had that orchid and that was the second time i heard the story, first time being in botany school. certainly someone here can give the name and maybe even a link? froggy

It can get more interesting. Someone posted this link and I couldn't remember where. Until you mentioned your find, decided to go on a hunt and found it on the net. It tracks everything, including who posts and how many times per day, week, month, year. Plus all the posts are there to search by name or date. If you click on a poster's name it will show you all of their posts. They state the data is used to track products, subjects, etc. for those wanting to start blogs and other forums. Plus advertisers use it for knowing which sites to market on. Garden web and many other forums have dropped in numbers due to users moving to facebook, their own blogs, and other competing locations. Teachers- If your subject is one that has a copyright-ed? name, be sure to teach in a generic manner. Stack & Whack is one I can think of off hand so you could be teaching a kaleidescope class. This is a public forum and the last thing we want to do is step on somebodies toes. I don't know enough about copyright laws to be specific. There was something on the sewing forum a while back about 'Taggie' blankets and what a headache.

I would be VERY interested in seeing a genealogy forum!!! Not sure how you'd go about doing it and getting it set up, but I think you'd have to contact the webmaster or something. Please don't forget this idea...could be a winner! Another idea...how about a site for changing careers or something to do with the worksite? Add your ideas!

I just saw this and I'd sure like to see such a forum. I've been doing alot of family research on ancestry.com and now need to start an ancestral scrapbook. I've never done any scrapbooking so I've a lot of learning to do there.

I was just wondering whether there is a genealogy forum here when I found this post!

I would be very interested in sharing ideas and methods for organizing and making sense of all the information I have found on the many online research sites as well as in archives and libraries.

Here is a suggestion: why don't we meet at the kitchen table forum? I'll post there and wait for interested people to show up!
