Flip Flop Pillowcase Dress

This is what I was telling ya'll about last week. I bought 2 sets of sheets and this was the only pillow case. I may use the 2nd top sheet as fabric. Madison hasn't seen this or it would be her's!

Another winner. Now it looks like it would be so cool (as in not hot) .....you amaze me. I like the fabric.

The dress I wore when I graduated high school Mother made from a sheet that had a scalloped edge with coording. It was beautiful, unique and cool. I've never really thought about it, but our sheets seem to "breathe" so these dresses would too.

Take a look at the Cole Haan air tali wedge. Looks a bit like a ballet flat from the front but has a small heel to add some leg length. Comes in lots of colors and models. Different kinds of heels, toes, spectator style, etc. Nordstrom has a nude peep toe, Zappos carries them as well. Just discovered a zebra pair too. Thanks all! Now I HAVE to go get some flip flops. They are really cheap right now as they are clearing space for Back To School stuff already. I know what you mean Donna. There are half a dozen lil guys in the family right now & I am having a heck of a time figuring out what to make for them. I was thinking about bucket/boonie hats but can't find a pattern anywhere. I may have to break down & BUY one. I do have to say that Madison is quite the model. Such a cutie!!!!

The director of my children's preschool taught me a very important parenting lesson early on. She discussed what she called the parenting V where when the children are young you have a great deal of control, as they get older the control lessens as the V opens up. She told me to make sure I exercised my control properly, so that I would never be in the position of needing to exercise it later when I could not. In this conversation that means if your teenager thinks leaving the house with body party hanging out is acceptable, then you are too late to the parenting table and having a battle of wills will likely have an even worse result. As Mamapinky said, the underlying issue with dressing like that is self-respect. And I cannot think of something more important to give my children than that. How to ensure your children have said self-respect is a discussion for another time- as is the difference between self-respect and self-esteem. I am not at all sure those two concepts are the same. The goal is to bring up children who are able to make good decisions from when they are little. And Chi's point about making mistakes in a safe environment is truly key. But if your relationship has become one of a power struggle over dressing by the teen years, then I doubt you will have an effective course of action. The clothing is a symptom of the bigger problem.

I am not saying that they shouldn't have clothes on or be sitting up (as opposed to laying in bed) but who is to say what "pajamas" even are? I don't own a pair of pajamas. I sleep in a tee shirt and underwear. When I get up I brush my teeth and wash my face and put on a pair of yoga pants. After I eat breakfast I go into my home office and work. I have been doing this for 15 years. I work better and it's much more tolerable when I am comfortable. If I zoom you can see my face and the top of my shoulders. It seem to me the school is just letting everyone know that they need be dressed. Little kids might actually like putting "school clothes" on. My DS is 16 and he doesn't have "school clothes", he has clothes and soccer clothes. He will be doing hybrid the 1st semester with 3 days on-line. As long as he gets up and is present and learning and has a shirt on I am good with that.

I love these!! I copied the posted pattern (different thread) and am planning to make some for my 4 yr old who refuses to wear pants. I think I need to make some bloomers though b/c she doesn't sit like she has a dress on. I have used a 50's pattern and cotton fabric for a pair of pants I made her but I need help adjusting the line for her bottom as it is... how shall I say- ample( just like mom's) and she says shorts and pants "feel funny" LOL

maders: sandra betzina's books are excellent at showing you how to accomodate sewing patterns and even pillow cases , I bet, into clothing that fits normal bodies. and once you know how to change for a tush, you just make that change each time. well not so easily with a growing child.

the other option is to look for tennis panties, they are meant to be worn with teensy skirts and come in bright colors.

Also, what pattern do you use for the pantaloons? I have searched all over, but found no pattern. Can you help me out? I would greatly appreciate it.

I just use a regular pants pattern and about 2 1/2 or 3 inches from my 1/2 inch hem I sew elastic on zig zag before I sew inseam.
