Eileen, I am hoping I will get avocados from a lone tree - I've done it before in Venice, and so it should not be a problem, although I was told that you need two trees or at least another tree nearby in the neighborhood, which I think I have a couple of doors down. I know there were other avocado trees in Venice. Pam, bromeliads are great for growing indoors because many of them do not like too much sun. A lot of them will bloom twice in one season, once they start to bloom. I have all of mine outside for space reasons, and many of them I have to protect from too much sunlight, or else the leaves will get burned. I have a similar problem with many of the orchids as well, especially the Phalaenopsis, which cannot handle much direct sun, if at all, but the flower spikes bloom for about six months! Since I don't have room to grow them indoors, I built some shelves in a fairly protected area outside the kitchen. I've had a bit of trouble with dendrobiums and oncidiums getting burned also, and so I have them in a semi-protected area, and they only get limited direct sun. All of my orchids that are blooming right now (except the epidendrums) are in the house, and so they will go into a separate photo folder that I will create later. Nancy, I might get some more proteas because they do well here, once protected from snails/slugs. I might try growing some from seeds. I saw a lot of proteas in Hawaii also, but none that I had not already seen here. Have you tried drying the flowers? Lars

I have the same problem and have "kind of" targeted this year to get them organized. I'm not ready to scan or digitalize, but am ready to prioritize and downsize. I agonized over the many photos I also inherited upon the death of my mother--SHE had boxes from her aunts and cousins who died before--I had gone through a few with her in the last years of her life and so was able to identify some of her friends and relatives, but there are still gobs of old-time photos of folks I don't know and there is now no one alive who knows or cares--my mother did not even know all of them. Still there is some kind of emotional pull that someone someday may want to see that photo taken in World War II or whatever. What's helping me is that I can't imagine my kids would experience it so differently, and I expect they too would just feel the burden passed on--that vague what do I do with these? thing that nags you because "photos" are special and harder to throw away. So far my plan is to save and label, and frame, our closest relatives, make 2 or 3 albums of "my" relatives, particularly with my brother and I as children with them--as these would be the ones that mean the most to me and might be amusing to my kids. That way, they would not inherit boxes! I still have years of our own nuclear family photos in boxes and again, I hope to mainly "albumize" just a few shots of each event and thin out the rest to keep some photo box storage; occasionally someone wants a photo for a project.

Hi Stush, I've assumed those brown spots are the same 'rust' that plagues Manolyn and Siam Silver. My Bantel's gets them, and only on the white part of the leaf. I believe it's bacterial or fungal, so I would think our systemic would at least help. I'm going to try and use it regularly and see what happens. One Craigii has 4 leaves, one has 3, another emerging has 2. The latter looks like it's going to be robust, so it'll be interesting to see how many leaves it develops. What would more than 3 leaves indicate to you? I notice that Juan's pic of Craigii in his Trif Book shows plants with a very narrow green edge like mine, those Craigii's pictured at the Kew site had a wider border. Russ
