Low-E 366 or just Low-E or nothing?
Comments (7)My LoE 272 windows replaced Pellas that had no UV coating (as an aside, don't get Pellas, avoid). I have not replaced all my windows (too expensive), but am replacing them a few at a time. So I can compare them since I currently have both. I have several very large windows that let in a lot of light, and there is no problem with that. I do not see that the glass is darker. I definitely notice less burning and sun bleaching my furniture and no longer overheating my south-facing rooms. I will say that my house plants that need a lot of sun have not flowered or grown, even though I was assured the LoE 272 would not affect them. My plants that need less sun like my African Violets are doing well. You should really speak with your contractor too since it sounds like he has proposed LoE 366. My contractor told me our climate doesn't need that though he would have ordered them if I asked....See MoreDo I want low-e glass in my porch windows?
Comments (8)Thx all - Todd, not sure I understand the ramifications of your first sentence - sounds like you mean the low-e would not be effective as a single window on an enclosed porch - not worth the extra $$$? Due to how the porch was constructed, its quite OK as a porch but to make it into a sunroom or more integrated with the interior would require extensive work - the next person can do it if they want! It faces north too which means as a sun room, the total lack of sun in the winter would be a definite problem LOL!...See MoreSheer window shades to counteract green tint of low-e glass
Comments (5)Do you have a style that is already present in the home? Anything will work, but something with a color in it will likely minimize the appearance of the greenish hue. I will also add that while some customer do note the appearance of the float glass green, most admit that they don't notice it after about 2-3 weeks....See MoreWindow Glass Replacement-clear or Low E with Argon
Comments (3)If this is conditioned space then I would not even consider using clear glass IG units on any of the windows. Replacing the existing dual-pane glass with modern IG units that have low conductance spacers and LoE-272 with argon fill is going to make the room a lot more comfortable as well as significantly improving condensation resistance of the glass when it's cold outside. If this is unconditioned space then using coated IG's will result in a slightly more comfortable room in summer, but probably not so much in winter depending how much sunlight the doors/windows receive. Tempering glass is for safety and has no effect on whether or not to use coated glass or not....See MoreJim96
