Refinished China Cabinet Before & After-pic

We recently inherited a curved front china cabinet from DH's mother's estate. DH says that it has been sitting in an unheated barn for over 40 years. I was skeptical, be am thrilled w/ the results. It is really pretty and will be going in my dining room. I am painting the dining room BM New Age #1444 (grayish-lavender) today and have purchased several lace-edged milk glass plates to hang on the wall. Hope it turns out as I imagined! I may need some help.....

The refinisher said it was red oak (?) and I can't wait to see it filled w/ my china! The picture doesn't do it justice.

BEAUUUUTIFUL!!! The refinishing work is just stunning, and you must be so excited! Can't wait to see you post some pics when the painting's done and the lovely cabinet filled with your china.

That is a stunning transformation! How gorgeous, and how wonderful you will have this piece in your home to use and enjoy.

I had a table refinished a few months ago and was so pleased to see what a professional can do. The price was quite reasonable as well.

Hope you enjoy your cabinet for a long time to come.

kmcg85, I saw that thread and thought, gee, those look familiar. ;-) Yours look gorgeous, too! Nice to see the drapes paired with another wall color. Love the saloon sign. I was tempted by the matching shades, too, but I've decided that adding a band of the fabric (I'm taking apart a panel to do this) to the top of the silk Dupioni drapes I bought ages ago from PB for the LR will be enough. Well, maybe. I also need to have a half-moon valance made for the window above our entry. I have an extra silk panel I intend to use for that area and I might add a band of the print along the bottom edge. Or maybe 3 vertical bands. Or maybe ... I'm still mulling possibilities but the more I think about it, the more I like the idea of adding a bit of this fabric to the entry valance. Are you crafty? What if you added a band of the fabric at the bottom of the shades you already own? They sell 24" pillows in this fabric so you wouldn't need to buy a whole panel for this small job. Or maybe add a band of trim that is the same color as the background of the drapes? Perhaps crazy ideas but what the heck. Sometimes, great ideas sprout from crazy ideas. schoolhouse, the holidays' craziness will make the time fly by. Before you know it, your panels will be here.

The shoe molding is permanent. GC said some floor people like to have it nailed down before and some after finishing. I guess the ones who like it down before are ones you can trust to be extra careful with your cabinets. I never really noticed in other kitchens whether they had that or not, so you might want to look specifically for that in FKB and ask some of those specifically. It's one of those things my GC automatically puts down unless I specify otherwise, and in my case with my uneven floors and walls and ceiling it was necessary. I bet if you say something about your fridge to them when they are giving an estimate, they will be sure to take care of it. Something like 'I know someone who had her brand new stove marked up during the process, and I'm so nervous about something happening to my refrigerator [demure giggle]. I know you will be careful but I couldn't help mentioning it.' (I'm no good at those giggles but you get what I mean.) We have painting left, next week, and then moving furniture back in to be 100%. Hmm... We bought the fridge, DW and micro on craigslist. The stove we bought new at Appliancesmart. It was a great deal because it had a couple of scratches on the side. We sorta rushed into it because it matched what we had just bought. My only real complaint is how long it takes to preheat. It takes forever! I will say that these newer appliances, (mainly fridge and stove) don't seem as well built as my old Whirlpool appliances, even though the fridge is supposed to be "professional". But at like $550 (stove), the price was right! I hope this helps.

Brutuses: It was refinished by an older, retired gentleman that does this as a hobby. He charged $445 which I thought was a bargain. That included replacing the glass on one side and the door w/ plexiglass. The original glass was broken. The plexi is the only thing we might change in the future. It looks OK but it would be nice to have glass eventually.

Sheesharee: The feet are my favorite part. They are the size of lion's paws!

I have recently had a coffee table and two Hepplewhite chests refinished, and your pictures show very fine workmanship indeed! A comprehensive and beautiful restoration.... please post photos when it is situated in your dining room, I would really like to see it in all its intended glory :)

Well, I painted like mad all day yesterday and I must say I really love the color-BM new age #1444. When I put on the first few strokes I doubted myself as usual but even DH agreed it looks good. I will try & post pics later, but i"m sure my junky camera won't get the right color.

I'm finally getting around to posting pics of the finished dining room w/ the china cabinet filled. I have the world's smallest DR and it is really hard to get a pic of the whole room. I love the color (BM 1444 new age) and the white plates hanging on the wall. The china cabinet looks great filled w/ china. Its quite a long way from being stored in the barn!

Now, this is the kind of thread I love the most. You post the Before........a dusty, partially dismantled china cabinet that many of us would have walked on by in a garage sale, even if it had been marked $50. You post another photo where the piece has been repaired, restained, and glows. You even give the details of Who you got to do the job, How Much you had to pay, (a bargain!) and What got done. Then........just to really make this perfect, you post a finished room shot. The wall color sets off the dark wood of all your pieces beautifully. The white dishes look wonderful on that color and work well in this dining room.

Good job on everything. And thank you for NOT starting a whole new thread as so many do without thinking it out. The people following this redo want to see how it turned out. And some of us who may have done a search, might never see the original thread.
