Need help with Toyota LS20AD148 industrial sewing machine

Hi, my husband recently purchased the above mentioned sewing machine; the problem is that no matter what we do we can't make it work properly, probably because we are not sure how to thread it properly. It keeps ripping the top thread as soon as we start sewing, even though itÂs sliding easily when we try to pull on it before sewing.

I own a sewing machine myself, which is easy to thread and is really straight forward but the above mentioned sewing machine has more hoops and loops than you can poke a stick at, so itÂs not as easy to identify the correct sequence of loops.

Would anybody have any idea how to thread this sewing machine properly please?

In addition, would anybody have any suggestions why would the top thread keep snapping? If so please email me on sobinacz@hotmail.com

I've used a lot of industrial machines but haven't used that particular one. If you can post a picture I'd be glad to take a look and see if I can help. Meanwhile, check the needle for a tweak or bur, check the bobbin case for a bur, and the tension disks to see is they need cleaning -- All of which you've probably done... How old is your thread?

The White may last through a couple leather projects, but i doubt it will work long term. While many industrial machines have reverse now, they don't have zig-zag and double needle options. For the most part, true industrial machines do one operation, if a machine does more than that, it's probably not an industrial. I have an old Bernina 950, an alleged commercial machine. While it will zig-zag and may accept a double needle, it would never sew leather reliably. White is a low-end home sewing machine.

Just a suggestion, but what about visiting major sewing dealers and asking if they have trade in's (some ladies always want the latest and greatest model) and maybe you can buy a nicer one, used, than you could have bought new, OR what about a DEMO model? Also check out Consumer Reports,,,They usually put everything thru it's paces and if anybody knows how they rank, they would,,they have a website and for a couple dollars on line, you can search it. A few times in the paper I've see ads where this company or that ordered X amount of school industrial machines and has too many,,you could try tracking these down,,they obviously would be work horses. What about contacting the actual manufacturers and asking them which of their models are the best for your type of need? I'm sure somebody there would be willing to give you their opinion since they know their own product. I just know from my own experience that I got a Bernina because the Husqvarna had some parts that weren't all metal and that turned me off. And of course Bernina was my quilting teacher's machine of choice. IMO. Good luck,,,Just trust in yourself enough to know that you will be able to handle what life throws at you and you'll be alright. In the end,,you'll probably end up in a better place than your life is now, so that is something to look forward to!!! :)

I used to own a 130 with all the original accessories and manual. Just sold it last year. It's from the early 50's and it was their first home machine, but the parts were based on and in fact included some of the industrial parts and is often called a semi industrial. Your machine originally had the small motor, but since it's on the outside, it's capable of being attached to an industrial motor and set up on an industrial table. It's still, however, a semi industrial, but it's pretty powerful and whatever you can fit under the foot, it can sew. It's faster than a home machine and makes a gorgeous stitch, but it's limited to the thickness it can take because of the short shank. It's a very good machine but keep in mind it's not a true industrial. It's a zigzag with the ability to make other decorative stitches. Acessories for this are often listed on Ebay, so just keep an eye out. What Juki lock-stitch "industrial" are you using? You bought that machine from SOMEONE, what does (s)he suggest for the work you presently wish to perform? Don't waste your time and money on "home machines". Sure, many of them are wonderful, but if you're going to use a machine day in/day out you DON'T want to jack-ass around with a "home machine". You need an industrial machine, END OF STORY. Think carefully about what you want the new machine to DO. And visit dealers with samples of what you want to do. And be willing to sit and stitch. Think. And GO HOME and think BEFORE you make a choice. If you want to crank out a "professional" product, you need INDUSTRIAL equipment, end of story! Buy the "good stuff" and don't screw around with "home" machines (most of which are grossly over-priced) IMO.

It worked, I followed the instructions you gave me and it's working fine now, so thanks. There is another thing I need help with, there are two wheels/twidly bits that I don't know what they do with, I tried to play with it but nothing seems to happen. Can you please have a look at the photo and see if you can tell me what the highlighted wheels are for.

Hmmm...I'm not sure about the little one on the top. It may be to adjust your foot pressure, but generally there's a screw on top to do that. The big one on the front should adjust your stitch length. Did you buy the machine from an individual or a company? I did a search online for a manual for it but haven't had any luck yet. I had to do that for one that I purchased and then lost the book for and found one that I could download for free. Do you have someplace local that sells industrial machines? If so, they should be able to order one for you. What kind of project did you buy the machine for, out of curiosity?
