Those codes are all over the place around here, even my bank sent a card saying I could track my accounts by using one (WTH?!). Possibly it's unfortunate, but those codes give me the same feeling as joining a 'social site' ~ mental red flags shrieking "who is doing what with the info you give them?" I know: I'm out-of-date and atavistic, but I didn't invest in the dot-com companies when they were doing this same sort of everybody-does-it push, I don't open e-mails from unknowns, and I don't give strangers private/personal info ~ and I'm not sorry. BTW, I understand that one thing done whenever you scan, is tracking who is interested in what, so they can "personalize" offers. They know the who (M or F, age range, residence area, etc) from when you sign up. Frankly, I prefer to be an anonymous elderly F paying cash for what I want when I want it without having more ads pitched at me.

I have an older model Epson, the Perfection 3170, which has the capability of scanning negatives and slides. I bought it directly from Epson (refurbished) at a very good price. I still have not scanned the negatives and slides I bought it for, and now the latest drivers available are for Windows 7. I did find out that it can be installed in "compatibility mode" on Windows 8. I've been waffling about a new computer and finally had myself convinced to go ahead with Windows 8. Now, I'm not so sure of what to do. I should have done this job several years ago, and life is getting away from me. I'm sure I'll leave this life with lots of unfinished projects. Can someone explain whether "compatibility mode" would limit any functions of the scanner if installed on Windows 8? I've read some rumors of Windows 9 making an appearance by Christmas time this year. Anyone with any knowledge of this? This just adds to my confusion. HI dancing girl ! Alot has happened since I purchased my pe scan! 2 new embroidery machines 1 old version of Disney then a new version of brother embroidery machine ....I haven used my pe scan but once! I tryed using it yesterday. ....it no longer works! Tryed looking it up on brother website but there is no such item must be so outdated! I took it apart today and fuse is black I need a new fuse ! But I don't know what kind of fuse it is! Brother is closed on Sunday :(. Maybe you know someone with this information the rest of the machine is pristine! But the fuse! ...I JUST ORDER THE BROTHER SCAN N CUT LAST WEEK! I'm so excited I'm wondering if I need this machine anymore now that I have the scan and cut I might be able just to transfer to pe design after I scan on cut n scan or I can just transfer it to my machine after that it sounds complicated to me so if I have to but a new one I might just get the flip pro scanner for brother I found one for 135.oo. so I have to wait till next month unless the cut n scan works?? If anyone knows anything about the only fuse that's inside the pe scan let me know ! I like to use this for lace if I can fix it! Thank you so much!! Dancing girl! !

I should have included I have an Epson Stylus NX 430 that never worked well, in fact the last time we copied something and it it took several minutes. I think a dedicated scanner is the way I want to go. Thanks for you experience.
