My mother wants to scrapbook ALL her pictures. This would be great except it has now become my job to help (read= do). I am trying to get her pictures out of her old books and it is almost impossible. Why you ask? She used rubber cement! I have tried un-du but it doesn't help. Is there anyway to get this off or is it a lost cause?
Dear Jan, Probably the best advice I can give you on this is to write to a rubber cement maker and see if they can give you any suggestions. As a last resort, I would cut the photos out (if possible, becareful not to cut the photos on the back of the page if they are mounted on both sides) and put them on new acid free paper. It may not be the ideal situation but it is better than nothing. Penny
Jan, When I made a scrapbook for my grandmother, I was faced with all her old photos glued into her albums. Some I was able to carefully cut out, but the ones that had pictures glued on the back side of the page, I could'nt. So I took the pages to Kinkos, or Office Max and had them colored copied onto acid free paper, then I cut the pictures out. I know they aren't the original pictures but, it works, and the color copies (even though most of the pictures are black and white) come out pretty nice. Sherry
Jan, Have you tried using dental floss? You can just try to slide it between the pic and the page and wiggle it through... try it with one that doesn't mean very much to you first though! I also know of someone who got it started that way and used a metal spatula to separate pics from her pages. Twaila
