You could also get tumbled stone coverplates to match. They are expensive but if you don't have a lot of plates in the backsplash it could be a good option

Our slate is in the desert colors, w/some darker gray, so we're going to use a dark gray pencil. For the switch plates, I'd get the color that best matches the stone so they are less noticable.

What about where the backsplash ends... do you put trim there or does it just end in the tiles? Look at the picture where the backsplash ends next to the refrigerator for an example.

I wouldn't add anything to the edge as it isn't anywhere else in that part of the b/s. Tiling person at our hardware store said to use a bead of caulking for aethestics, if we wanted.

Yup, we're using pencil on the edges like at the end by your refrig because IMHO it looks unfinished otherwise. But to tie it in, we're also going to put it into the design by using it as a divider between 4x4 tiles on the diagonal and a row that's 3 - 4 inches of mosaic on the bottom. (If that makes any sense) I hope that Bill sees your post, and responds with some suggestions.

As for where the stone ties into the wood trim, that should be caulked with a siliconized latex caulk that matches the grout. A for the switchplates, palimpsest isn't kidding. the cheapest I've seen matching stone switch plates is about 75.00 a piece, and that's just for a single pole switch cover or plug cover. The prices go up from there. As for color, there are a couple of things you could do here, depending on your taste. You could go with plain plastic plates (my preference would be cream to blend in as best as possible to the tile), or you could go with paintable plates and paint them to match the wood trim. Or you could either go with wood or again painted plates (whichever is applicable) to match your cabinets. Those would be my choices.

We used a pencil piece on the edges of our tumbled marble. I think it finished it nicely.

We also used the same pencil pieces to box the design above the range, so it all went together well that way.

As for where the wall ends, you can just end it with the edge of the tiles themselves. Just turn the cut pieces around so the cut edge is in the field, and the natural edge is facing out, as a kind of "bullnose".

I don't know if you have a Menards in your area but I saw these resin ones there. They had this and a lighter one. For $7 bucks there not bad. I'm not sure what we are doing with our end wall I'll post pics when we are done which may not be till after the week end.
