Someone already mentioned rareseeds.com which is the website for Baker Creek Heirloom Seeds and it is my favorite source for many heirloom vegetables. Sandhill Preservation Center is a great source not only for heirloom seeds, but also heirloom poultry, and they have the best prices on seeds that I've ever seen. Seed Savers Exchange is great and anyone interested can buy from their public catalog, but the best thing is to buy an annual membership which gives you access to the many thousands of seeds their members save and perpetuate. Other favorite seed sources include Southern Exposure Seed Exchange, Harris Seed (for some tomatoes they developed that are only available through them), Victory Seed (the BEST info avail. on the heirloom seeds they carry and high-quality seeds and packaging), and--for heirloom flowers of all kinds--Select Seed. I like allrecipes.com but also use recipezaar.com too. For "freebies" there are the many Freecycle sites across the country. To find the one nearest you, go to freecycle.org us. Membership is free and members can post messages about stuff they want to give away to someone who'll use it (better than sending stuff to the landfill!) and also members can post messages about stuff they are looking for. NO SELLING allowed, only free stuff. I believe there is a related Cheapskate organization to. For used merchandise, DS uses Craigslist. Find the Craigslist nearest you at Craigslist.org. Just this year, DA has found great buys: a fishing boat, a boat motor, a 125 gallon aquarium and a refrigerator. The refrigerator, for example, was in great condition and was only $50. For books, especially used books, I use Amazon.com but also use Half.com, which is where Kristine just bought books for the upcoming fall semester for $140 instead of spending $500 at the college campus bookstore. Every major retailer in the USA has a website and I shop at a lot of them, but I usually restrict myself only to the "Outlet" section of the website because the prices there are so much better even than sale prices. I also look online for coupon codes to get further discounts and free shipping. I just google the retailer name and words coupon codes because there are tons of coupon code websites. And, because it is always cool to find a cheaper way to feed our gardening habit, I love the ideas you can find at Garden Web's Frugal Gardening forum. I use DG's Garden Watchdog as well. For organic supplies I use a lot of different sites, including Planet Natural, Arbico (beneficial insects) and Worm's Way among others. When DS was younger and I was doing a lot of room mother type stuff, carnival type stuff and Cub Scout den leader type stuff, I always shopped at Oriental Trading Company (Orientaltrading.com) for theme merchandise, novelties, art and craft supplies, holiday decorations, etc. AND, if you're planning a wedding, they even have oodles and oodles of wedding favors, supplies, decorations, etc. That's all I can think of at this moment, but I can always post more later. Beth, you probably have Passiflora incarnata which is a native vine in Oklahoma (as well as many other states). There is probably some info on the Internet about sowing the seeds, but I would winter sow it - does need some stratification in order to germinate, but some say that a GA3 treatment is necessary. You can buy it at gardening centers. Some say it is difficult to grow from seed because it contains a natural growth inhibitor, and others say it is easy. When someone tells me it is difficult, then I gotta take up the challenge. I just ordered seeds so we can compare notes on our progess! I also ordered P. ceurulea, common name of Blue Crown passion flower, and will try them, too. Years ago, I bought a vine labeled "Purple Flowering Passion Vine" at Warren's (now defunct) in Midwest City. I later ID'd it 'Lavendar Lady'. It is gorgeous. Comes up late spring, but grows very fast, and produces beautiful, fragrant, purple flowers until frost. It bloomed this year until late November. Anyway, one of the parents is P. incarnata. Cuttings are extremely difficult to root, so propagation from seed is virtually the only way to reproduce this vine unless you buy one off the internet, or from a local nursery (good luck!). Prepare to be inundated by Gulf Fritillary butterflies when growing this vine, because it is their host plant. They will eat it to pieces, but they will not kill it. The ultimate reward is beautiful long winged orange butterflies with silver spots on the underwings that glisten in the sunlight. They will stay in your garden daily. Variegated Fritillaries also use this vine as a host, but are not nearly as prolific as the Gulf Frit. Try soaking your seeds a couple of days before planting them. I have also heard that this helps. SWAN it is,although we met with one of the top ped gastro docs in the nation and she thinks she's pinned it down to Hypogammaglobulinaemia (is that name short enough?) Basically an immunoglobulin disorder (he's always been low IgA). We'll see in a couple of months. So until then I will just live with my ugly two year old ducklin...ummm Swan :oP He's a keeper on occasion. Today I'm getting used to our new routine. TO get him back to baseline I had to go back to hospital foods so I'm basically "cooking" with a fork and a microwave. Everything is seasoned with fake butter (soy) maple syrup and honey. Everything comes from a can...and many are made by a guy named Boyardee who (in my opinion) does NOT deserve his chef title. df it sounds like you're describing Alaska :oP It's not much of a stretch to go from here to Duluth. ALthough when we left it was -8 in Duluth and by the time we got home that night it was +30 degrees in Anchorage. Hey doll!! Great to see you here! I know what you mean about being so far behind....I'm with ya on that one! LOL I decided that I would organize my pictures and memorabilia in a big box. I go through the new pictures as they are developed and sort them into order by date. I separate one bunch from the next with a piece of cardboard. I also stick in a sticky note incase I have a brainstorm of ideas, so that I won't forget by the time I get to those pictures. This is working out really well, and although I am only just now working on Christmas 1998...I don't feel so bad because everything is organized!!
