What I do is trace all my pics on brown craft paper and play with the grouping till I have it how I want it.

Thanks Tina, I have a pretty good eye at arranging pictures, so I doubt I trace them on paper. If I could just figure out what to put on each side of the main picture, I can take it from there. Now if I get stuck, I'll definitely trace them! lol.

I think if you switch the two on the left, you're good to go.

Line them up by the bottom edge of the frames, and space them an equal distance apart.

I never thought about doing it this way, I kind of like it! But I may be adding more pictures to the wall, all of my pictures aren't unpacked yet.

Thank you! My MIL who is 80, still travels around the USA taking classes in stitching, as if she needs more classes! She did great picking out colors. I have more of her work but will place them elsewhere.

Don't start throwing things at me, but have you ever thought of framing them out in a similar, if not identical, manner?

They are very nice works and the matting is already different. Similar frames would make the stitching, itself, take center stage.

I love them and you're lucky to have such a talented MIL.

LOL, Parma. No, I can't switch the framing. I'm not really fond of having the same frames on all picture groupings, it's too much of a "modern" look for me. And she has a picture framer who does all her work and I'm sure it will hurt her feelings if I were to do that. She went to a lot of trouble having them framed and matted.

The pictures I haven't unpacked aren't related to the stitchings. I have more stitchings in other rooms. I haven't decided if I'm going to add different kinds of pictures, etc to this wall or just keep her stitchings on it.

As I just said on another thread I almost always do gallery arrangements on the floor first. It's easier to balance colors and content that way which one can't do with the pieces of paper.

What I'd do, which may not be what others would do, is arrange pics with same/very similar frames/mats together either vertically or horizontally. I usually put the lighter color/content above and the darker below. Then when/if you have a couple of "sets" just fill in for balance. Outer edges should form a rectangle. I think it can work if you don't have that outer rectangle but it makes for a much more casual, eclectic look which I don't think suits your collection and is more difficult to do well IMO.

Are you Photoshop friendly? I what always do is make a Photoshop file the size of the wall space I'm working with. (1' = 1"). I measure the outside of each picture and put an equivalent rectangle on separate layers on the Photoshop file. Then I can rearrange them to my hearts content.

BTW I love the red wall and white bead board.

Okay, I'm seriously thinking about doing it in a row like Mc suggested. Help me with the tall and narrow picture. I could put it on a side wall by itself. I've been staring at the wall and pictures and have no idea where to fit in the narrow one if I do the row.

Artlover, no, I'm not Photoshop friendly. Wish I were though. Thanks for the compliment. I was hesitant in painting it a dark color since there aren't any windows in the room, but one of the workers gave me a really good compliment which meant I did good in my decorating. lol. He asked us if this were our parents house and we were fixing it up! So I guess we took a relatively modern home and turned it into an old one. Which was my goal!

Here's a couple ideas with what you have there now. For me this is the easist way to tell how it will really work. I used to arrange things on the floor before, but now I take a picture of the wall and all the art as straight on as possible. Once loaded to my computer I make a virtual. Sometimes a picture is the best way to find out what's wrong with something in our homes decor. This saves holes in the walls by having the "picture" first.

I think the tall and narrow one should be in the center, like you have them lined up on the floor.

This will work fine if the bottom edges of the frames are all in a line. The tall one will be the apex of a shallow triangle.

The Rockettes all look like they're the same height, don't they? Actually, the tallest one is in the center, and their heights gradually decrease as your eye moves outward.

But their feet all hit the floor on the same line.

Mc, the narrow picture is shorter than the one I have hanging on the wall by about a half inch. I wanted the "black" picture to be the center piece since it's so bold, and it's the tallest of them all.

Do you still think the narrow picture should take it's place?

Oh, I also need to check to make sure they can all fit on that wall, if I do them by a row. lol. I do like the idea of a straight row with the bottom of the frames lined up.

Just, thanks for the ideas, I'll take them into consideration also. :) Not sure about having the narrow picture on top though.

I want to get these darn things hung so I'll put that one in more of a prominent place after I get it fixed. BTW, that particular picture has a very narrow mat that matches the intricate frame. That's one of the reasons I don't want to change out frames.

Too bad you broke the glass on the one. I don't have anymore time today. It's about dinner time here. Copy and paste your original picture to MSPaint and play around with it. It's a very easy program to learn.

I should have taken the photos outside where the light is better, but it's too hot out there. :) Some are kind of blurry because of the intricacy of the stitch work. Sadly, my lousy picture taking doesn't do them justice.

Oakley, those are beautiful. What a treasure. I like the last arrangement that "just" posted. I think if you take away the one on the left it's going to look unbalanced. Go get yourself a new piece of glass! Reframing is a simple DIY project.

Those are so beautiful! What a lovely gift from your MIL. I don't blame you for wanting to get them hung up. Wish I could help but I have my small quilts framed and hung in a row on the narrow space below my staircase railing.

I do like the tall, narrow one in the middle. I think it's the black one underneath that's throwing things off. Maybe it needs it's own space? Or do you have others not shown with more black in them to balance things out?

Anyway, I really like justgotabeme's arrangement, and oakley, those pieces are just gorgeous. You know, I have some needlework that is covered in glass, and some that isn't. It's easier to appreciate the intricate knotting on the pieces that aren't glassed over. You might want to consider de-glassing *all* the pieces, eventually. At any rate, it's not a tragedy.

Well I finally found this again. When looking I kept finding other threads to read or follow up on.
Hubby wound up not making it home for dinner. Still not home. Major problem with a computer program at the hospital.
I wanted to come back and let you know I couldn't think of another way to arrange this grouping, but the ones I already posted. I too like the last grouping the best. And yes, get a piece of glass cut instead of pulling it out of the group. They are all so very gorgeous! Lucky DIL, yes indeed!
If you do have other that you might like hung on this wall take straight on pix of them and I'll see what I can do tomorrow. Though I will be watching our grandson I'll have some time to play.
Oh and if you are going with just the above needle-art then hang the broken glass one until you have time to repair it.

Here's the finished product. Thankfully I didn't have room for the picture with the broken glass, but I have an ideal spot for it when I get it fixed.

It still needs tweaking a tiny bit as far as spacing goes, and I see one is crooked. lol. The light fixtures will be installed on Saturday, and I cannot wait for this particular fixture to go up! Besides gutters, I think our house will be 100% finished this weekend. Yay!
