I think it's a cool idea and you should go for it. Something perhaps to coordinate with your lighter accent pillows. I like your bedcoverings. Very pretty!

I think it's a great idea-- with a side benefit that you have easy access to an extra blankie if it gets cold in the middle of the night. :)

Can you tell us who makes your bed and the chest below the footboard? I love them, and have been looking for something similar for a while now...

The bed is from Rooms To Go - almost identical to the Pottery Barn, but SO much cheaper! The blanket chest is old - I just painted it to match the bed with some paint left over from my stair project.

Personally, I think a few framed prints would look better. The quilt makes the bed seem claustrophobic to me.

I think the attractiveness of the set-up in the photo is due to the strong color of the quilt and the matching bench at the foot of the bed. But you won't know if you like your version of it until you try.

Very similar and I love the idea but I think the PB works so well because of the lightness of their room. It's fresh with lots of light and happy looking...you don't want it to dark or cave like. So with your darker room I think you're right to put a lighter shade of quilt back there. Keep in mind though that your lighter colored quilt might become a dust magnet.
Matching pillows on your footboard would help to tie it together.
I could see you changing the quilt and pillows for the season which could be a lot of fun!

I think a quilt would be too casual for your room. The PB photo reminds me of a giant towel bar.

If you feel you need something, what about shirring a rod of, I don't know, dusty blue irredescent sheers to hit behind the top rail of your bed is.

Oh, or silvery sheers!!!... attach at the same height as the top rail, but behind the rail so you still keep that black horizontal element.

In fact, while sorting through a bunch of old decorating magazines (old meaning not more than 3 years old), one of the few pages I ripped out to save shows a great looking quilt hanging in back of a bed, as art. It wasn't a solid color, tho, it was a black-and-white Hawaiian quilt, very grafik, very striking. (like the one in the link, only the background was white and the design black.) Gorgeous look! (and last night I started perusuing e-b-a-y to see if there was anything similar I could use for a staircase wall visible off the guestroom.

I agree with sue36. I love your bed, bedding, wall color, furniture, lamps, and in my opinions adding a quilt over the canopy frame would detract from the elegance. My first thought, even before seeing sue36's post, was that you should put some framed prints there. I wish someone would photoshop something in!

The PB look is much more casual and vibrant than yours.

Why go with a quilt? If you find some beautiful, luxe fabric you can line a panel and drape it over the back rail instead. That would look more elegant and appropriate for your bedroom--at least, from the photos.

I'm not a fan of the quilt at the top of the bed. Looks like a giant dust collector to me, and makes the bed feel closed in and crowded.

I just got my PB catalog in the mail yesterday and I was checking out that exact same pic! Love the idea and I'd love to see you experiment with the concept.

PS: I love PB style too! I think I'm going to buy a PB sofa this winter!

Love your bed. What is the wall color, I love it!

I think it would look great with some semi-sheer gauzy white fabric curtain panels that tie on. I got some super cheap at Ikea.

That said, I don't think I'd love it with a quilt or blanket, more drapery panels, and I think it would look gorgeous.

Although I do like the idea -- I still would prefer to see a large black-and-white photo there or perhaps a sunburst mirror in silver?

This is not the first pic I've seen of your bedroom. While I have a tendency to glop up my rooms with many things, everytime I see your room, it just looks elegant and restful in its simplicity. I don't "do" symmetry, but again it looks beautiful in your space.

I'd hate to see anything that would alter the look you have going on now.

I also think dust collector, and too casual for your elegant space. Your bedroom is so much prettier than PB. I vote for simple framed photos as suggested above.

Perhaps this has already been said (i haven't read through all the comments) but i think a quilt is too casual for your sophisticated room. I "see" two large black and white photographs, perhaps close ups of two different kinds of flowers, in that space.

When I look at your beautiful room, I visualize a gorgeous silver-framed mirror above the bed. It would add interest and life without competing with the simple serenity of the room.

As I originally said, I would not use a quilt. I was thinking of something much lighter. I know a fabric store that has tons of sari fabric, maybe something silver would work. Though, now I've got this picture of a huge towel holder that I don't know if I'm going to be able to get past :)

Re-reading the original post, I see that you did say that you were thinking of a lighter fabric. I think that part of what I respond to in your room is the strong lines of the frame against the gray wall. I would not like to see that obscured, and I think you have just the right amount of fabric now, with the bedding and the curtain panel that is visible on the side.

I was thinking of black and white framed photos, too, but I'd like to see three - I like odd numbers.

Those are beautiful rooms, kats. Why do I always go for lots of color and pattern when I am so drawn to the elegant, monochromatic rooms?

Personally, I like the quilt, it is so unexpected.

I didn't think I would like how it looks, but on the mockups I prefer the quilt....looks cozy. My only concern would be the dust collection thing, but if you wash it with your bed covering, it would be OK, wouldn't it?
