Digital camera question

I have heard from a few people that when you print your own pics from your digital camera onto photo paper, that the photo paper for computers doesn't last forever and that your pics will eventually fade. Is this true? I don't mind if they are just pictures that I can reprint from a disk, but I don't want to do all the work of putting them in a scrapbook just to have them fade aftera few years. I use kodak photo paper-if that helps. Any info would be appreciated! TIA

Yes, it is true. The ink isn't acid free. I'm not sure about the paper. A friend also told me that black and whites don't last as long as color. I read that if you have a digital camera you should take the disk to a photo shop and have them make a negative.

I don't see any point of having a digital camera if they aren't safe to use in scrapbooks. I'd rather have regular pictures and use a scanner if I want to send a photo over the computer.

I just got a digital camera. There are websites that will process your photos just like a regular photo lab. Family PC had an issue on digital photography and it listed some web sites that offer this service. www.fujifilm.net, www.kodak.photonet.com, www.ofoto.com, www.photoaccess.com, www.photoloft.com, www.sfw.com, www.shutterfly.com. All of these got good ratings from the testers. sfw.com is having a promotion, you get your first 24 photos sent and processed for FREE. I just sent mine! I don't know how it will work out yet. I hope this helps you.

Do you normally wear glass? If so, could it be that the dioptric on the camera is set incorrectly? If you look through the viewfinder, on the right, there's a little + and - sign with a small rotating button, try turning that while looking through the viewfinder and see if it gets less blurry one way or the other. For me, it needs to be turned all the way to the " - " side. I'm even thinking I might need to replace the dioptric because I'm so blind :P You can order them at the Canon site under Accessories, though probably somewhere online has them cheaper :) I hope this info helps :) -A P.S. Now, if I could just figure out how to set the 9 dot thing properly when working with depth of field, I might get some photos that don't need to be "Sharpened" in PhotoShop! Cable modem & digital camera question

owbist, yes there is another port there but it looks like it may be for a mic. Its a round type outlet. I can't move the tower our because I'm afraid the cable it too short. Would it be OK if I just unplug the cable modem in the front & replug it back in when I get done transfering my pictures? oh, and thank you so much for your help!

You really have no need of that CD, I never use mine and I am on my 4th camera already. Most programs coming with cameras have limited stuff and loads of company bloat to contend with. Whether you download your pics to the computer using a cable to the camera or use a card reader XP handles it beautifully. A window will pop up after connecting asking if you wish to copy these photos to a folder on your computer. You do. If you are connecting to the camera it must be turned on during the download. It will then tell you how many pics are there and suggest a sub folder inside My pictures, this will have the current date for the folder name but you can change it to your liking. There is also a spot to place a tick to have the computer delete all the photos from your camera memory card once the transfer is complete. On completion you are offered the chance to view your photos in a slide show if you wish. It all works very well really with no need of the CD you have lost.

The facts pertaining to close up photography. It is under Macro in any photography Forum,"popphoto.com/forum, photocamel.com/forum" and probably a canon forum somewhere. The camera, Canon, Nikon Sony, Pentax, has no significant difference what ever type of photograph you want to take. With the proper lense any digital will do the job the skill part is up to the operator. For any of these cameras you need a lense that has a close focus setting. Often called a Macro setting or lense. Want to do a lot of interesting reading then Google Macro Photography. Most camera lens in the 28/55mm range with a f1.2 or better will focus down to about 1ft which is enough magnification for most flowers. jim

Sorry to disagree, but almost ALL printer inks are acid free. What makes the photos fade is the kind of ink used. It is not a pigment ink, there is more on this subject on the forum question :Am I missig something " I think was the name of the post and a link to color box that fully explains pigment inks and the differences between them and computer printer ink. Penny (Who is a printer by trade and comes home every work day with ink everywhere. LOL)

I'd like to know how the pictures turn out, Mary. I also have a digital camera, and it takes wonderful pictures, but I don't know if I should spend time and money using these for scrapbooking.
