I am sorry to hear about your brother's vision. Have you talked with the blind association? They came out and helped my parents set things up around their place. Also if your brother is a vet, some VA centers offer a vision program called VISOR. It is almost like a camp to learn how to manage low vision. They also gave my dad lots of helpful aids including a computer with a large screen and a reading device. The computer had software to massively enlarge the orint and read it. Back to coffee I just bought the nespresso virtuline(sp) for my husband for Christmas. You do have to order the pods on-line or from specialty shops. The pods are recycled- they give you a recycle bag. It does have a reservoir Can't tell you much more since we haven't used it other than samples at the store.

My son is a manager at a Starbucks. They routinely have a basket out for people to donate coffee, then they grind it just before it is sent overseas. In our area, a retired military guy comes to pick it up and takes it to the base to be sent. Wouldn't hurt to ask if they would donate to your cause. Where we live, Target and Publix sells it. However, when you open it, it is never as fresh smelling as what you get at the store, esp if it is already ground.

You can also order the little plastic discs that fit into the top of used K cups to refill with your own coffee. They come with a little fan brush to help clean the filter in the used one. We ordered the 24 pack and refill with Folgers Black Silk and some flavored favorites. I stick a small square of scotch tape over the hole in middle for freshness and to keep form spilling dry grounds before use. Just make sure to let the filter cup dry completely before reusing. We have some that have been reused 10 or more times. Just turn the cup until the punched hole on bottom is lined up with needle. I marked edge of cup with marker for a while, but is just as easy to turn until it falls onto the needle! Ours at home was a gift, and I bought one for break room at work. Loving that quick cup with a little caramel machiatto creamer.....yum!

I personally won't pay for those overpriced pods and capsules. Most important thing is freshness of the beans and a good grinder. Currently using either a French Press, Moka Pot, Clever coffee dripper or Thermavorm drip when we need more quantity. Mazzer Mini grinder was the best investment I've made. We do have a lever actuated plumbed in espresso machine (Fiorenzata Bricoletta), which we loved, but I've given up with it's endless repairs (gaskets, descaling, pump, stats, etc.)
