Lexluthor, it's not a stupid question. I didn't know what one was until I encountered the term here--and then I had to have one (two, actually!). An airswitch is an alternative to a wall switch. It's the little button on the counter to the right of the faucet in my pic. In most cases here, it's to operate the garbage disposal, although it could be used for just about anything with an on/off switch. Most people who use them like not having the clutter of a wall switch on their backsplash, or in the case of a garbage disposal in an island, having an easily accessible place for the switch. I have them at both sinks and love them.

Our granite and switch were just installed on Monday and we love it! Wet hands or dry, it doesn't matter, you push it once to start it, push it again to stop it. It seems those wall switches are never in places that easily accomodate shorter people, so when I learned about the air switch, I was tickled pink! A couple of things I learned along the way that you may want to keep in mind: It's electrical so you have to have an outlet in the cabinet under the sink. If you currently have a top mount sink and you're replacing it with an undermount, the undermount will be bigger inside the cabinet. Make sure you will have enough room for the additional hole required. For example, the silgranit sink I chose has 1 large sink & 1 smaller sink and they took up so much room on the counter that I only had room for 3 holes, the faucet I chose requires 2 holes so I had to choose between a soap dispenser or the air switch, which was a no brainer for me. It's better if you find a smaller fabricator with proper licenses and insurance. Don't go with big box stores but also make sure not to do business with contractors or freelancer shops who cut quartz in their driveway, yard or a garage. Check the reviews, ask to see some of the work they already did, and that should be enough to make you certain that you're doing the job with the real professionals. And now you can say that you can be certain how a seam should not look like.

Good points. I will get the sink and see if it fits, and if I have to grind it a little on one edge I will, (or return the sink for another one). I have a fabricator coming out to install 2 slabs of quartzite in the kitchen and I can always add this on, but I would rather not because any complication can delay things further and this project has already gone on since May of 2019. In Philadelphia it was relatively easy to find good professional help at reasonable pricing for just about everything. In the Wenatchee valley, not so much. And I live so far up in the woods most won't come out to my home in the winter. As for my resume, I've always learned more from my mistakes than my successes, and there have been many. I will report back.
