Drapery rods- your favorite site pls

Just beginning my drapery rod search. Thought I would start here and get all your favorite haunts. I think I am going antique/brushed gold with glass finials. I have 3 windows total (1 extra large window in the dining room and 2 average size the living room). Seen anything pretty lately?

I just ordered wooden drapery rods at draperyrodsdirect.com - can't give you any feedback yet about the delivery/customer service but the price was in line with what I wanted to spend for the wooden poles, etc. that I wanted.

I know the poles come in a soft gold, but I don't recall if they had glass finials since I wasn't looking for them.

In the past, I've used JC Penney and also Pottery Barn and have been happy with both. I don't have brushed gold rods or glass finials, but I would guess one or both of these stores has them.

Valinsv, I'm not usually a big fan of Penney's and am sure some of their curtains are as you say...skimpy, however, I bought a Dupionis panel from Pottery Barn (89.99 per panel) as well as a panel from JC Penney (29.99) to compare and truth be told, they're almost identical. They're BOTH lined and have similar weight & color. I love Pottery Barn and the drapes I bought are to match a new duvet cover I got from there. However, to me, any slight difference in the draperies between these two stores (or even RH who's pricing IMHO is ridiculous) just doesn't justify the 60 dollar price difference. Justgottobeme - Funny you should mention the drapery rods at Lowes. I found one there I loved and it was on clearance. I got the drapery panels I mentioned before, the 1 inch decorative rod as well as 3 boxes of hoops & clips for less than what 1 panel at Pottery Barn would have cost us yet it has the same look.

Yeah, I though a picture would be helpful! I'll see if I can get my son to help me with that! I have considered making my own, but for some reason I'd rather purchase them - even though I've made some in the past. I may have to repost my question (including pics) next week since we're busy with prom (and a trip w/kids to the lake) this weekend!

Just wanted to let you know I found more of the Canopy Rods at another newer Wal-Mart. I am one happy camper. The rods are a much less expensive version of a design I'd expect to see at Pottery Barn or Restoration Hardware. The quality is excellent and the prices can't be beat. I recommend anyone in the market seek out this brand. The 36 - 66" rods were $25 and the 66 - 120" rods were $31. My total for 2 of each was about $110. They are 1 1/2" diameter rods, nice and substantial too. I am simply thrilled with this purchase. It is for my "temporary" window treatment -- someday I will spring for the custom drapes I really want, I hope, and these rods might get the boot. But they look really amazing with the panels I got from Linens and things (108" long tone on tone striped damask in a pale straw color w/coupon only $20 each!! I needed 13 panels for my project). We just have so many other expenses right now, that I am proud of myself that for a total investment of $380 I have all the draperies I need to polish up my very large kitchen dining room/great room. Can't wait to get them up...

Ya they're actually 4" in diameter (which is the measurement of any line that goes from one side to the next, transversing the center) Basically if you cut it in half the flat side of the rod would be 4". That's quite large for a rod. Normally you see 2 and 3" rods (they're all measured by diameter. I have to get special rings for these ones because of their size (antiquecurtainrod.com) maybe that's antiquedraperyrod.com....I forget. :o) If someone put a measuring tape around the rod, like you would your waist, you'd end up with the circumfrence of the rod (circumfrance?) anyhoo, a different measurement. Generally they're always sold by diameter though, as are the rings (they'll be listed with the diameter of the center or open part of the ring so you know they'll fit on your rod). They're also measured by legnth of course, and finials normally have their own measurement. You need to make sure your finials are the right size (diameter of the end for your rods. Mine would look silly on 1" rods for instance. Did that help? I think I'm going to go ahead and paint the rods first, then make a decision and go ahead and make the drape I want...see how that flows, and go from there. Part duex of this drama coming soon!

RH has a brass collection with glass finials. I've recently bought their antique brass rods with end caps but haven't installed them yet.

ratherbesewing, I order a lot of our hardware from Angela Rose. We have a wholesale account but she sells as a retailer, too. She is so knowledgeable and she'll make sure you get what you are looking for (if you need special brackets, etc). I know quite a bit about installing, but she still has great information. Tell her what you're looking for and she'll do the looking, it'll save you so much time.
