Desperate: Why are all the rugs too narrow (or too long)?

Help, I've literally spent months trying to find a rug! I have a small breakfast area, for which I want to replace the rug. The current size is 5'5"x 7x7" and the edges get mangled by chairs being pushed around.

Ideally, I'm looking for a rug that's 6x8, but anything between a width of 5'8" and 7' and length of up to 9' would work. I'm looking for either natural material (jute, sisal, etc.) or something more contemporary (chevron, trellis, non-fussy country) and simply can't find anything that's not outrageously expensive. The ones I like are all too narrow, i.e. 5'3". I've even thought about using two 4x6 rugs, but then need to find a rug that doesn't have a border.

I just googled 6x8 rug and came up with a ton of possibilities. Then I did 6x8 jute rug and still came up with a lot, including the one below which is actually 6x9 and $165. Maybe that is outrageously expensive? What type of price point are you looking at? I've purchased nice rugs at Overstock, Lowes, HD, and when they are going under a dog crate or are for my dogs I get them at Big Lots - super cheap generally and they are only going to be here for a short time.

Thank you so much for that link. I found that most rugs that show up when you google 6x8 are actually 5'3" x whatever once you look closely and requires either searching inch by inch or going through it page by page.
I'm looking for not much more than 200.00 since it'll be tossed in about a year.

I'm also doing a 3x6 foot shower. It'll be an alcove with three tile walls. Currently planning just a shower curtain as there's not enough room between shower and toilet for a wall and I'm not good at keeping glass clean. I'm debating between a tile shower bench at the back end and an installed fold-up teak seat somewhere along the 6' wall. If I go with fold-up seat do I center on the wall? Suggestions? Really appreciate all the before and after pictures! Can't wait till I can share my own project.

What a beautiful place you have. I have a couple of suggestions. One; don't say small bedrooms, just say bedrooms. You have the sizes listed, people can judge for themselves. Really, only one of them seems small to me. Two; your pictures are in no order. You should regroup them. Start with the front of the house and the porch. Then show the inside rooms. Put all of the bedroom pictures together and all of the kitchen together. I didn't see a picture of the bathroom, can you put a picture of it? You don't need all the pictures you have. Next do the putside areas. Cut some of them, like the pictures of the dogs. Put all the barn and horse pictures together. Put all of the backyard/deck pictures togeather. Some of your pictures are too dark and many of them look cluttered. For example clear all the small stuff off your kitchen countertops before the picture is taken. You could get an estimate for converting the smallest bedroom into a bathroom. Even if you don't plan on doing it you could have it to show a buyer. I think a lot of people would perfer a 3 bedroom 2 bath house to a 4 bedroom 1 bath house. Good luck, I hope you get another buyer soon!

This is the kitchen that has been in my brain for at least 10 years, and here you have gone and done it perfectly!!! I'm going to Pinterest the bejebbers out of it as inspiration photos for the coming renovations (as soon as I finish all these pesty bathrooms!). Seriously, I have wanted a 4 oven Aga plus a module for ages. I already have the full 601 fridge & freezer (so a little bigger than your Subzero.) And I plan to put a big barrel hood over it all. And you have a big island with not huge aisles! And you have soapstone! I really think we're channeling the same frequencies. I'm totally in love with your butler's pantry! We didn't inherit one, but I may use the cabinet sliding door idea for the walk-thru pantry I'm planning. It solves my problem of a tight space and not really wanting all open shelves! I don't really see anything wrong with the furniture but I would remove the outdated huge TV cupboard and buy a long console to put the TV on. It will completely update the look of your room. The desk behind the couch has a very different style and doesn't fit in style or color, and neither does the chair. Get a narrow console and find nicer lamps to put there. These look clumsy somehow. Sorry, don't mean to sound negative about your very nice room, but just want it to fulfill its potential. With these changes the room will also look larger and give it breathing room.

Another possibility below.. It looks like 6x9 may be a more standard size and sounds like it would work for you. I wouldn't do the two rugs together... more places for them to bunch up and get caught.

Have you considered using an indoor-outdoor rug? I have one in our dining room, and I love how easy it is to care for in a place where there is food. They are also a bit lower in profile than a real natural fiber one, which can be nice when chairs get a lot of use.

This one, for example, is 6'-3" x 9'-2", and costs $169.

You could always go to a rug store and have them bind a remnant for you in exactly the size you want. Look for polypropylene or olefin carpeting for the most stain resistance and color fastness.

I'd also suggest overstock.com. I tried 3 rugs from them and the third was finally the charm for our masterbath. I loved the patterns of the first two rugs, but the rugs didn't fit the descriptions given (either color or pile), so they had to go back...which would normally have really stopped me from ordering again. But I called customer service, and they were super nice! They emailed me a prepaid shipping label to return the first 2. So I kept trying, and with my third try I found one I really like now. The size and look I wanted also limited my choices. Good luck with your search!
