Am I Missing Something???

I've read many postings about scanning items and printing them on acid free paper, fonts, software, etc., but was under the impression that unless you buy a special acid free cartridge, it will almost certainly fade in a few short years. What's the point, or am I missing some vital information? Thanks for any information you all can provide!

Dear Tandy,
If you are worried about the images fading you could always color over them with your scrapbook pens. I like to use a lot of different supplies and images that are just not available on the market, so I have no choice but to either draw them free hand or scan and print them. I can also scan and print for example my brother's pictures from the newspapers (he is a police officer and is often photographed) which are printed on such high acid content paper that there is no way beside the archival spray ($40.00 a can, is not in my budget for one can of spray) that I could use them in my book and keep them in good shape, without scanning and printing them on acid free paper myself. We're at that place in between, cool in the morning. Good reason for a warm beverage. Sun comes out and heats things. Today, it got to 80 (overnight was 57) but the clouds rolled in and so the back of the house is not cooking as it usually would. No heat, no A/C. At least for the next couple of days.

The "B" wire on the pic of your current thermostat is common. Same as "C". the "B" terminal on those tsats were common.

Air filtration/cleaning.... am I missing something?

System is currently in basement (partially finished). now there is just an open slot and I slide in the filter, obviously not air tight...but doesn't seem to be bad. Of course I know that will get worse the bigger the slot, but figured it was worth a shot....and maybe I could just use some tape or fashion a door of sorts. ...and if I mess up too bad, I can just buy the "cabinet" from AprilAire or Honeywell (mentioned above) Hhhhmmm, I just thought of something though. Caryscott, thanks for the info on Canac! Wow, I'm so relieved I didn't actually go ahead with this line - wouldn't have even gotten the one-year warranty on them! LOL! Just to add my two cents to this thread, I ended up getting Kraftmaid cabinets (from an independent dealer, who's given me terrific pricing and service). I considered Ikea, but I'm not really into the "Italian" kitchen look, I needed design help, and I don't think I would have been able to get the size customizations I needed for my tiny galley kitchen. (One side of my kitchen has 19" reduced depth base cabinets.) I had actually wanted frameless in order to maximize usable space, but couldn't find a frameless line with a finish I liked. I finally went with Kraftmaid even though it was framed because their Ginger Glaze finish was the one that attracted me over and over again when I went to look at cabinets. (I was much more inflexible about certain details like finish color than I ever dreamed I'd be - learned a lot about myself in this renovation!) Anyway, I'm happy with the quality of the Kraftmaid cabinets. I got to inspect them in quite a lot of detail due to the problems and duration of my kitchen renovation, so I have some idea what the quality difference might be between them and a high end cabinet line. But for the money I paid, I think they're quite good. I'm sure - I *know* - Ikea would have been much less money, but it wouldn't have done what I needed it to. For those for whom it works - that's fantastic. I have a friend at work who did his ultra-modern kitchen using Ikea boxes and custom doors. It looks gorgeous. There's no single right answer for everyone. :-) Oh, and I love Target too! Got my bamboo silverware organizer there - they were the only place that had one that would fit my very shallow depth drawers, it was *beautifully* constructed (better than the expensive ones I saw), and it was cheap. Can't ask for more!

I was just at a site (www.computerscrapbooking.com)that gave a tip on its homepage that says that the ink in all major computer ink cartridges is acid-free. Does that mean they won't fade?

Acid free has nothing to do with fading. Acid damages paper and photos that it come into contact with, and it can migrate through many papers and distroy even things it was not originally placed next to.

What you want to look for in ink is pigma, which is permanent, fade resistant and waterproof. This is especially important when you document your pages - not as important in decorative items on the page. The ink in ink-jet printers is not a pigma ink.

Hello Ladies,
Hate to be the one to add fuel to the fire but Pigma is a Trademark name not an ink ingredent (sp). I work on a printing press, so I am a little knowledgeable about ink. What I think Sue meant was pigment, not Pigma. Here is a link that I think will help most of you on this question regarding ink usage and type. Penny

Thanks for all your input on this posting. Think I'll stay away from the scrapbooking software for awhile. However, with all the technological advances, I doubt it'll take long for them to perfect this method for us all.
