help with lighting over island table area

Hi All,

My brain is fried, but my Dad wants to know what lighting I am going with for the table/eating poriton of my island so he knows if its one fixture or two pendants.

I could use the double pendant light I had over my old table which would be the simple and cheaper solution. But is this outdated looking? It was a farily expensive and good quality light 10 years ago.

Or, I do like the look of the "lantern pendants" I've seen. Would this update better or just look stupid since I need to keep my honey maple perimeter cabinets?

The table portion will be approx 42"x 96" cherry wood 2.25 thick.

Not the most flattering since its on the ground, but here is the light I already have and could use:

Here are my perimeter and island cabinet color. I hope countertop will be soapstone, if not then dark granite. Knobs will be changed out to something a little darker and more interesting.

I was thinking about two lantern pendants like this:

I think the lanterns will complete your gorgeous plan --- did you see the thread with the 101 amazing kitchens by blondelle (somebody else also linked this recently)? There are several in there that feature the sea green cabinets (they are so pretty BTW) and the majority of them have some form of lantern or other type of pendant. In the notes of those kitchens, that discusses the elements to copy, they are often a critical element.

Your plan is so warm and inviting --- I can't wait to see it complete. Also, the rest of the kitchen is so great, I think your other fixture would be OK as well, but the lantern concept could really make it pop.

Get anew light we just put up our lighting in the kitchen and wow it really makes a difference for the details. You can really find some reasonably priced pendants on line. I bought all my lighting from lighting direct and bellacor and pleasantly happy!

Ok. So got a few things to 'throw at cha' All my new cabinets are in, I need to figure out how my lighting is going to go in my newly renovated kitchen. Contractor is going to put a can light above the sink, and the rest of everything is up to me. The mistake I made (or maybe not a mistake) was to buy my main light fixtures before this renovation was even started. I got excited and ordered them on Lamps Plus.com. Not sure if I'm totally crazy about them, but the shipping will be very expensive to ship them back and I believe I can make them work nicely. The first area I need help on is the Island/Table area. It is roughly a total of 100 inches long or a little over 8 feet. These are the fixtures that I have purchased and I am wondering how I should position them. My guess is to put the chandelier in the middle and the pendants on each side. Need some input. I also need to find some mini pendants for the snack bar area, but my contractor has told me that the top part that attaches to the ceiling needs to be VERY small, like 3-4 inches in diameter - I don't see this measurement included in the specifications on the pendant lighting, just the diameter for the actual light that hangs down. HELP!!!! The URL link that I am including is the chandelier. Measurements are as follows: 28" high, 26" wide The mini pendant is 8" wide and adjusts to 53" high. Need some opinions on how this will look, if anyone has the same type of set up and if you can send me pictures I would be SO grateful!!!!!! In our case, the pendants over our peninsula add to the subtle definition of rooms...b/w the Kitchen and DR w/o the obstruction of line-of-sight or the bulk of cabinets. They maintain the open airy feeling of the two rooms but still offer the separation of the rooms without confining the spaces. Our tall family has no problem with them at all. They're over our peninsula, not in the middle of an aisle and since we have sufficient overhang (we didn't skimp), the peninsula is deep enough (42") that they are not in anyone's way when sitting there (or getting up). [We range in height from the shortest (me) at 5'10" to my DS at 6'6".]

the crystal one is pottery barn, the others you can find all over. for some cost savings, try Lampsplusopenbox. great deals. https://www.lampsplusopenbox.com/chandeliers-category/island-usage/search.htm this one is nice too. 75watts for each bulb. that should be decent light for the island area they have this one too. not bad at $367.
