I think a lighting store w access to the catalogues of styles avail will be good help for you. They are really pro at what they do. Take pictures and draw out dimensions and locations of islands , table , and generally what seating arrangement will go in initially at least. You can take this many ways . I wouldn't worry about the granite and I wouldn't tear anything out or drywall over anything. Books on the shelves ! w a few vases or intended objects . It'll be fine but get coordinated lighting and take time to browse as there are tons. It took me repeated trips to search at 2 full service lighting stores to find 2 exterior light fixtures and I still have the 3rd to select( rear).

Patricia-would you put clear glass over the smaller island? I was thinking a lantern style from Visual Comfort-EF Chapman design and 3 small glass pendants near sink. Table is a dark 60” round with ladder back and cane seats. The pictures were taken in the general area of the table.

Re: sales and service in lighting. They have various levels of skill some people are just stocking the floor ...others are the pro staff. they see many browsing people...it may be a benefit to organize your goals and request consultation. They come to home also as well many times.

Since you are headed into rustic farmhouse chic, I'd consider wrought iron lantern fixtures to bridge the styles.

Also I think it's very interesting that no one in Pennsylvania (Ohio, Wisconsin, Florida etc.) would have a sign in their kitchen like yours.

Like I said if light is your aim then don’t light the ceiling light the work area.

What is going on with the wall under the upper cabs? Is that an appliance garage? Is the center part a cooktop? Looks like induction. You could use LEDs under those uppers.

Haha! That's where our over the range microwave is going-again. I was hoping to install it somewhere else but 1. There was no good place and 2. If I created a space I would lose storage and at least a couple thousand dollars, all to heat a cup of water! The cut out in the counter is for our gas cooktop.

I think any one of those would work. I LOVE the crystal but am hesitant to use it so close to the stove. I also really like the black with the white shades and the 5 light gold fixture (that one is really fun!) The last one is fun too, but I do have a philosophy that I only spend $$ on things I expect to like for a LONG time. The last one may be too trendy for me. On what site did you find these? I doubt you need the light over the center island. I'd ditch it, and go for three industrial or barn style pendants over the sink island.

You know, I had given that some thought (Omitting small island light) and just doing three pendants. The only thing stopping me is it is the pot rack has nice down lighting too, and it's been a great place to highlight flower bouquets. It's a good, balanced focal point (unlike the large island). I will show your idea to my husband.

The barn light, if big enough, might look good over our 60" round table...

Beth-I have actually saved a single pendant glass fixture like the one on top. Very cool glass. Thought if I put three pendants at large island, this would be pretty. Really like yours too.

Either lunar three glass fixtures would be pretty. I like the glass fixtures because I love glass of all kinds, and I think it would help brighten and lighten my kitchen.

Have you seen the Sausalito light? (Visual comfort, I think). It too is a pretty fixture I had thought about putting over my table. My difficulty is: I like so many things and it's hard for me to tie it all together.

i just dont get trying to use a decorative bulb for light...............clear glass fogs, and is a pain IMO in a kitchen. I also 100% agree with grover that I would not put a hanging light over the center island, i would replace with a ceiling can to give working light and dress up the foreground.
