Best value for sheets, towels, bedding?

Hi,

we've run out of bed linens. Where can I get the best deal on solid white bedding? I also need solid white towels.

Call your local hotels/motels. I hear they dispose of them long before they're actually worn out.

August and January are "white sale months" at many of the stores.

Hit the garage sales.

If you have a Trading Post or Consumer Call or whatever they call it at your local radio station, call in and leave your request and phone number.

Post on Craigslist (but be careful).

I've bought bedding from Overstock.com with good results. Some of the deals are better than others. I think everything I've purchased has held up pretty good.

I just bought two sets of towels at Kohl's and besides being longer and a little wider than what I was used to, they are wonderfully soft and med. thick......really impressed & they wash beautifully. If this will help, I just looked up price I paid early July, bath was 13.99 and hand towel was 10.99 and they were having a sale of buy one and get one free. Kohl's is always having "biggest sale of the season" or something sale so I never, ever have paid full price. You know what I do like about Kohl's is that they carry so many good name brands like Lee, Levi, Sag Harbor, Bali, Kitchen Aid, Nike and they have really good sales. I like being a 'senior' and getting the usually 15% off on Wed. Do go look up the towels and all the wonderful colors (they have winter colors and spring color lines).

One more suggestion to check out Pottery Barn. Last year I was on a quest to replace some beloved original Charisma sheets. I tried new Charisma, pure linen, and Thomas Lee percale. Meh. I was at Pottery Barn and needed some reasonably priced sheets for a guest bed and decided to check out the sheets. When I ran my hands over the single-ply 300 thread count, I was amazed. The website says they're sateen, but they're light and so smooth. And in my opinion, anyway, not at all slinky or slippery. Just smooth and cool. Well, they've since found their way from the guest bedroom to my bed. I've washed them several times now, and they seem to be holding their nice feel. They do wrinkle. And the size isn't as generous as I'd like -- I'm using king top sheets on my queen bed, but am about to switch to a king bed and then I'm afraid the sheets will seem skimpy. I find myself waking up in the morning and thinking, "ahhhh, these sheets feel wonderful." Haven't done that since the old Charisma days. Good luck with your search.

I also have the St. Dormeir wool pad. You can wash it (though I haven't yet), but it would not protect the mattress from seepage if a kid has an accident. As far as pillows, they are the hardest thing to recommend to someone else because preferences vary so greatly. When we bought our latex mattress, I tested the various latex pillows at the store and could not find one with the right loft. I ended up with a shredded latex pillow, which worked well for me because I could remove the amount of latex necessary to make the pillow work for me. I now love it so much I bought one for my mom, since I was sure she'd love it, too. And she could not have hated it more. So now I have 2 nice shredded latex pillows! My recommendation for pillows is to go to a good bedding store and try them all out. Listening to people's recommendations online is likely to result in your spending good money on something that doesn't work for you.

I've read about this issue before with scratchy towels even coming out of the dryer. I've never had this happen and I do not use softener with towels. They get either a regular hot wash or Sanitary or Allergen cycle. Always extra rinses. The dryer temp. I use is med-high heat and also use the Eco-Friendly option which lowers the the temp a few degrees and increase time but uses less power overall. I also use these options... Wrinkle Release: The wrinkle release option helps prevent wrinkles and tangling by alternately tumbling the load without heat for 5 minutes in a clockwise direction, then 5 minutes in a counterclockwise direction. Perfect Tumble: The perfect tumble option uses reverse tumble action during cool down to reduce tangling and wrinkling. Shrink Guard: The shrink guard option reduces the initial drying temp. and gradually lowers the drying temp. during the cycle to protect the fabrics from shrinking.

Pay close attention to thread count. I bought some sheets once that were as close to gauze as it could get without having to be labelled as such. I linked a site that will give more information on purchasing sheets but myself, I like a good substantial 100% cotton sheet, laundered and bleached, with the smell and slightly rough feel of an outdoor clothesline drying. I've always said if I ever became rich, such that I had housekeepers and maids, I would insist upon fresh line-dried sheets every night.

If you have Costco near by try there. Otherwise I'd go to JC Penneys, Sears or some good name brand store. I have found that I want softness as well as a good size , thick towels and sheets.
